I have no idea who this band is but since when does sounding most like your cd mean you put on a good show? I'm sure Milli Vanilli sounded A LOT like their cds when they played live. If I wanted a band to sound just like their cds I'd stay home and listen to the cd. I like live shows to sound LIVE. |

__________________________________________ [Apr 25,2005 3:23pm - CarrotsandSticks ""] What a killer day! I ruined soooo many of your Cephalic Carnage pictures with my goofy face. I mean... [img] look at that! I showed that picture to a bunch of my friends today and they all chuckled greatly. And... [img] ...wtf am I doing there, dancing? But the best part of the WHOLE effin day was when my friend Tim landed on his fucking head... [img] and then just stood there holding his head and mouthing "OWWW" on stage in front of Leonard for about 10 seconds. [img] Look at us laugh at him. This friend of mine has a knack for head injuries at concerts. First at a Red Chord Show he got hit in the head with some metal piece the guy was holding, leaving a huge gash which he had to go to the hospital for. Then at a the Lamb of God/Children of Bodom he got elbow checked right in the mouth which caused his braces to dig iinto his lip. He had to go in the bathroom and pull his lip off of his mouth which made him bleed much. Now this. |

___________________________________ [Apr 25,2005 6:44pm - maslayer ""] Here's my take... First off, I LOVE this fest year in and year out, no matter how hot, late, early bands arrive etc...it's just a good time period. Day 1 Tons of metalcore...not the biggest fan of the genre but i appreciate the energy and integrity they bring to their music and the interaction their fans give them. It was good to experience but I wouldn't want to be part of the culture as so many of them are...just not for me. OBITUARY WAS AWESOME...sounded tight, great presence...was like a breath of fresh (dead) air. Day 2 More metalcore...getting to me...and then CRYPTOPSY. INCREDIBLE! Easily the best time I've seen them and doing one of the greatest death metal cds of all time in it's entirety. Flawless. Day 3 Ahhhh...that's better. NOCTUARY was awesome as usual. BEHEMOTH was totally killer. CEPHALIC CARNAGE was absolutley phenominal. They get better each time I see them. And to top it all off was KING DIAMOND. He brings it all together with an awesome theatrical show and the metal to back it up...unforgettable!! I don't get to see too many bands but I get to see the ones I want and I was not disappointed in the least! Thanks to all who came by, said hi, drank with and picked stuff up \m/ |

___________________________________ [Apr 25,2005 9:57pm - dreadkill ""] i actually had fun at this show. the only shows i seem to have fun at these days are local shows, but this show was actually fun. missed behemoth, but the other good bands made up for it. first band i saw was cephalic carnage. they were awesome. hypocrisy followed with a great set. i was so happy to see dark tranquillity again. it was about time they came back to the states. soilwork sounded better than usual, but the new songs bored me. i liked all of their albums up until the newest one. the songs from predator's portrait and chainheart sounded good. nile was amazing as always, and the king made me feel like a kid again. andy larocque blew away every guitar player in the building. he really deserves more recognition than he has gotten over the years. saw some cool people i knew and saw lots of rttp people lurking around. had a good conversation with josh hates you before king diamond started. definitely a good guy and i'm glad he spent the time and energy putting together the rttp comp. hope everyone had a good time. |

______________________________________ [Apr 25,2005 10:14pm - dourcursiva ""] sunday was a good time...highlights of the day: showed up early for pariah, that was well worth it those guys are great technical metal. then i came back to see into the moat and caught the end of howling syn, they get my vote for worst band on the fest, so fucking lame, along with mnemic. from a second story window was great, that was awesome watching all the kids rock out on stage and the drummer from RK holding the guitar player on his shoulders during the set. i cant believe that guy jumped off the balcony. maybe the should change the name to from a second story merch balcony. into the moat sounded amazing, probably the best sound quality of any band i saw all weekend. i was blown away. between the buried and me was awesome, played 2 new ones and some stuff from the 1st album, i was very impressed, but i always am with them. i was expecting soilwork to suck since the last time i saw them they played NO old stuff, but this time they played bastard chain and one song from chainheart!!! which was awesome, as well as the 3 best songs from the new one and only a couple from the crappy album, figure number five. nile was brutal, some guys from vital remains up there at the end i thought?? king diamond was great...i couldnt help but laugh a lot of the time. i also liked how much air guitar he was doing. some sucky stuff: missed evergreen terrace cuz the main stage got pushed up, missed dead to fall while i was watching between the buried and me. i didnt think cephalic was that good, the sound kinda sucked up there for them. but overall a great day of metal and a breath of fresh air with all the metalcore/hardcore on the 1st two days (even though i do like metalcore, hate me if you will) |

______________________________________ [Apr 27,2005 1:01pm - the_reverend ""] mainstage: the red death: I ran in to catch like 1 song of theirs. it sounded really good on that stage. which is odd cause that stage doesn\'t sound good. I watch their last song from up in the balcony. very heavy. demiricous: I heard about them signing to metal blade a few weeks ago, but never heard of them before. they were alot more death metal than I thought they would be. I\'m surprise since metalblade\'s been releasing metalcore lately. internal bleeding: I really wish they played the second stage. I couldn\'t hear ANYTHING! the only song I recognized was driven to conquer. the sound guys pushed their levels up way too high. noctuary: they sounded awesome, except the fact that someone was f\'ing with the drums on the house pa while they were playing. the singing is more epic that I remember it from the CD. this was definitely the best set I\'ve ever seen from them. they had a lot of energy. cannae: played 80% new music, only playing 2 old songs. I missed one of the songs, but I believe they played annabelle\'s song. I hope adam didn\'t think I snubbed him before their set. I just had people calling me from 2 directions. their new stuff sounded awesome too. I can\'t wait till their CD id out. evergreen terrace: they got bumped up because 3iob was way late. they had a new drummer and they are recording a new CD which will be out on evr, I think, at some point. maybe I\'ll actually get this one sent to me. the last song had the singer down in the crowd. behemoth: they took forever to get ready. I think it was the corpse dirt they smeared on. well, that and the fact that they were bumped up due to 3iob being late. their set was one of 2 all day that sounded perfect on the mainstage. 3 inches of blood: holy cow! they can do it live. I was thrown aback. I can\'t believe that they deliver live. they drove 36 hours straight to be at the show and that\'s why they were a bit late. the falsetto singer looking like he should be in anom amarth. between the buried and me: they played their new song which I\'ve only heard briefly. it sounded good live. I was running around so I didn\'t get to catch many of the other songs, but this band\'s had a lot of shake ups in the lineup. black dahlia murder: the first thing that trevor (singer) did was come into the photopit and tel us that he was goingt o kick us all in the head. it makes sense cause he can\'t see shit with his glasses off. they played new tracks which were good. they have a new CD coming out (look at the banner). trevor spend most of the show in the audience. hypcrisy: sounded awesome, but it was way too loud in there. Peter had the attitude on the stage which ruled. tons of headbanging in the audience. dark tranquillity: the singer\'s english was surprisingly good. bunchs of new songs, seems like they focused mostly on that, but they also when and played a song off all the CDs that I have, focusing on damage done for old stuff. the sound was muddy in there as usual. soilwork: so loud. mostly new songs, but the tracks that I did know off natrual born choas, it was hard to follow along with cause it was so damn loud and you couldn\'t distinquish things. nile: Joe Pain on bass, and a new drummer, george kollias. almost right off , they played 2 tracks from nephren-ka. ramses bringer of war and smashing the antiu. the new bassplayer went crazy on the stage, looks like someone went to nile school. Dallas was the frontman... and well.. after seeing the presense of the last 2 front men, he came out sounding geeky. sort of reminded me of McCracken (phantom limb) when he talks on the mic. at the \"black seeds of vengeance\" part of black seeds of vengeance, a bunch of people (that autopsy666 mentioned above) ran out and sang. Karls new guitar is beyond rediculous. king diamond: I enjoyed it a lot, actually. it was funny/theatrical stuff and was quite enjoyable. I found myself remembering things from long ago times when I gave him music a chance. conspiracy theory time here: ok, I don\'t know if I\'ve ever witnessed lipsynching, but I\'m almost 100% that he was lipsynching. He just didn\'t look like he was pushing himself at all. Next, king diamond has NO WRINKLES. I zoom in on some pictures and I\'ll post a 1:1 crop later, but there are only the faintest wrinkles around his eyes when he\'s squinting. this guy should be pushing or pulling 50 now... this leads me to believe that maybe the King is really dead and this is a replacement... |

He had a female backup singer on the right had side of the stage, they sang harmonies together, which may have made it look "lipsynched" ALL HAIL THE KING!!! |
______________________________________ [Apr 27,2005 4:20pm - the_reverend ""] secondstage pariah: the sound for them was great, but there weren\'t that many people up here for them. hell within: the crowd grew a bit for them, more than the # of people downstairs. though, the mix was wa too loud. gizmachi: I didn\'t know them.. but I know they have a banner on this site. they were slightly nu-metal, but I guess they are on slipknots label. howling syn: not really my bag musically. they were moonspell-like and I\'m not a moonspell fan. some of it was doomy. at the beginning of their set, a nameless-one turned to me and said \"this can\'t be good\". my vote is that it probably comes out much better on cd, I\'ll have to listen on their myspace. into the moat: RK was rocking the front starting here. all the new songs sounded exactly like the cd. even sounded like they flanged the vox?! mnemic: I\'ve only heard limited things from them, but it seemed like everyone in the audience knew who they were... and knew their music cause they were singing along with it. from denmark and sort of like inflames with weird electronic noises. from a second story window: I ran up to shoot them cause behemoth was taking way way way toooooo long to set up. Plus I could hear that they were rocking up there. I walked into mild craziness. the sound in that room today was horrible... but I was in there for a song and raced out to shoot behemoth. I come back 5 minutes later and all hell broke loose (like in the simpsons where marge cleans and then the door swings one way and then back and it\'s all dirty) the guitarist, derek, was up in the railings to the balcony, band members and crowd member were everywhere and the music still went on... I saw the sound guy telling a guy on the side to cut it and turn on the lights, but he just gave the \"1 more minute\" symbol and let them keep going. origin: goratory was in almost full effect in the audience. didn\'t expect to see them here. It was weird seeing them with out longstreth on drums. did they play any old tracks? it was all new ones from what I heard. the risk taken: this was litterally the best TRT set I\'ve seen. the crowd was really into it, they had a lot of energy on the stage too. it was really good. they had a fill in guitarist (from shai hulud). dead to fall: their set sounded really tight. I believe they ended with inamorata into gates of hell. the crowd was pretty crazy too. at one point (pic 44) the bassplayer flew into the crowd. cephalic carnage: even though I saw them in montreal, this was their first east coast date with the original line-up back together. the sound up here sort of sucked balls. besides hybrid, it was all just too muddy. they played a bunch of new songs too. they ended with the king of the hill theme song into hybrid. |
