ME-
dude, what the fuck is your problem? first of all, i dont care who you rub elbows with, and second, we are no nu-metal, metalcore band with a hundred friends that go because they are friends with them. i remember you from an email i got before, and friends of mine got before too, so you dropped all the same names, and story you did before, so dude, dont waste MY time, it was a fucking question, now, you dont know if i could sell 30 0r 100 tickets, and maybe its you that needs a hobby, try masterbating, it will lower the the blood-presure. dick.

how many regular bands on this site could honestly sell 10 tickets to a show without a national headliner?

It depends on the bill. $10 for 4 or 5 local bands is too much to bug your friends to pay, unless 1 or 2 are "headliner quality", or what have you.

Either way, mandatory ticket selling/pay-to-play shit is for lazy promoters, and it'll always be a shady, amateur-ish tactic. There could be ways for it to work in a co-operative fashion, but generally it's just a way of suckering bands into doing legwork that's not their job.

[Mar 25,2006 6:24pm - pam nli  ""]
It was an email for The Accursed, who could easily sell 10 tickets but suspected this guy was one of those lazy promoters, so in reply to the ORIGINAL email that said NEVER PAY TO PLAY HERE, Jon thought it was ironic that if, say, you didn't sell the tickets, you would be paying to play.

So all of you can eat it.

if it's not their job who the hell's job is it! we aren't exactly talking clash of the titans tour here, most of these bands are lucky to even find a place to play music that NOONE is going to come and see,i am not saying the promoters shouldn't do anything to help but it's EVEYONE involved in the show's responsibility to get as many folks there as they can, fucking spoiled, selfish, lazy, kids!you all make me sick,,

NEWSFLASH, just because you got your four best friends in a band and wrote some songs doesn't entitle you to jack shit,,maybe this kind of attitude is the reason so few bands from new england ever go anywhere?

It is a band's job to help spread the word, show up, and play. Selling tickets is retarded, buying tickets at the door is 10,000 times more convienent than tracking down a band member to buy them from. The only people that will make that extra effort are friends, and you can't always pack a place with friends.

Not to mention, the club this ASSHOLE "promotes" is in New Hampshire. If you don't even live in the state your chances of selling 30 tickets are slim.

There is nothing reasonable about clubs making bands sell tickets. It's a pointless thing for morons like this guy to hold over band's heads. But I guess he earned that right, dining with the mighty SEVENDUST.

people here aren't complaining because they have to do work to get people to come to show. No band would ever claim here that they don't have a responsibility to promote their own shit if they want to succeed or they want the show to succeed. It's just that, from experience of many people here, requiring local bands to sell tickets seems to have a direct correlation to a promoter who is lazy and doesn't put his or her effort in. When people check in and question the idea of selling tickets they are trying to feel you out and figure out if you are one of those lazy promoters. The response of calling them ridiculous for asking the question and then the jump to name dropping bullshit is uncalled for.

that's all for now
 __________________________________
[Mar 25,2006 8:22pm - brian_dc ""]
you also probably have a different opinion of what a local band wants to acheive (in terms of what you consider a "national band")...you'd be surprised by how many bands on this board are not looking to be the next biggest rock gods in the world...I would hope that number is small because that attitude leads to crappy art.

"s kind of attitude is the reason so few bands from new england ever go anywhere?"

that person has obviously missed every "metal" tour that has come around with 90% new england bands. hardcore too. a lot of labels looking to sign bands like shadows fall, kill switch engage, unearth, etc. like those bands or not they are HUGE and are from new england. these days almost any ne band with a breakdown and harmonic guitars can tour it up big time.
