I'm gonna go on a tangent. I'd like to ask vocalists/screamers - do you try to scream as loudly as possible, or control the volume and get better growl/raspy sound? This came up during recording, engineer said that a lot of death metal singers actually sing at very low volumes compared to "normal" singing. Obviously some singers sing loud, some not, I'm just curious if there's a preference or advantages with one or the other.



That's mainly because in death metal, the vocalist go for a growl instead of an actual scream. Though there are exceptions.
