The X originated back in the day when clubs would put X's on kids hands who were underaged, or just weren't drinking. Eventually, when the straightedge movement took off, kids started just putting their x's on themselves.

First and foremost, Bane sucks, and so do a ton of other "straightegde" bands. But let me tell you a story...
I once went to a show with nothing but straightedge bands: In My Eyes, Mouthpeice, Bane, 10 Yard Fight, and i don't know who else. There were a couple hundred straightedge kids packed into a small american leigon. Everyone had a fun time, and then on the way out in the doorway was some guy with a 6 pack in one hand, and an open beer in the other enjoynig a drink.

Now if everything you metal nerdarrios say is true then this guys body would have been scattered all over Haverhill. But it wasn't. Anyone who even noticed it had a good spirited laugh over it, and that was the most reaction it got.

Putting X's in front of your name was the thing to do years ago. Thats when I started doing it. Because I've actually been around long enough not to have to publically embarass myself by asking "DoOoD was with da X's n shit? Thats like duM an stuff"

Ya there are alot of straightegde kids who are way too uptight, and pretend to care way too hard. And you know what....these are usually the kids who end up breaking edge. I wince every time i hear someone preaching about straightedge because experience shows me that the ones who yell the loudest, the ones that antagonize people the most, the ones who treat it like they have something to prove are usually the ones a year from now that you see standing outside a show smoking clove cigarettes with some huge obnoxious XXX tattoo on their legs.

In conclusion, straightedge kids are just like everyone else, most of them suck. But that doesn't excuse ignorance about it. If you wanted to know something about straightedge go look it up. Putting something down that you know nothing about is just as ignorant as someone shoving their fake beliefs in your face.

tough guy hardcore = bulldoze, skarhead, merauder, out to win, fury of five etc. Not to be confused with Throwdown, 18 Visions and everything dumb that was ever based off of that. Tough guy hardcore was about guys who could actually put people in the hospital making music.

Not to be confused with the present day version of kids even smaller than me running around in girls pants, and army hats trying to act hard and write riffs that Earth Crisis did 10 years ago.

Emo = Just dumb. Emo, realistically, has nothing to do with hardcore. In the very late 90's and early 2000's this whole idea that hardcore should be tough by sensitive came out through metalcore. Bands started putting melodic parts, and clean parts, and clean vocals into songs to make them appear more diverse (and to impress girls). Bands like Poison the Well made "emocore" a reality and at the time everyone loved it. The reprecussions of it however, were that hardcore was doomed to be stuck with this association to emo. Everyone thought that they had some sort of obligation to listen to a certain quota of emo. As a result, emo kids began to think that they had some sort of right to hardcore. Then they got beat up alot at shows and complained about it on places like lambgoat, returntothepit, and the automata message board.
