______________________________________ [Oct 21,2004 1:56am - the_reverend ""] so looking passed the home-made the_network modification to a shirt... death without weeping: I'm not sure what happened from the last time I saw them. their last cd was filled with an almost-homage to pantera. now they are just brutal (follow deadwater drowning's style). they even did a mortician cover sombie apocalypse. they forgot the samples though "their after us.. they know we're still in here.. what the hell are they.. they are us, there's no more room in hell.. when there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth.." < night of the living dead > a lot more break downs then mortician.... human bicycle bone science industries: they took FOREVER to set up. something about the mics being an issue and no one who knew the PA system was around in the back of the drums to fix it. after they got set up, they played a operation 16mm film while they played. they had a singer (who was female) and the drummer sang, short grindy songs with some blasts. I'm not sure how long they've been around, but I swear I remember hearing the name a long time ago. they talked a lot about old-school metal. towards the end of their set, kyle broke jonathan birthrites ass and elbow... I guess he couldn't tell them apart. the network: god damn... they looked like they were a red sox franchise... a bunch of new samples before their songs. noam chompsky and king george bush I talking about iraq the first time. all of them went crazy. at one point, I saw pete flip into the crowd.. I think he took some one out. after that kevin (castro) while plotting a worker revolt, fell on me. I thought my camera was broken cause it stopped focusing.. but I had flipped a switch that stop the focusing (oopies). their set ended with all of them screaming into whatever was in front of them. pray for a plague: short set, but sweet. they had a guest vocalist too. I was kind of thrown back cause they moved around a lot which they never used to do. the re-addition to the band of bass is great too, he fills in a bunch of areas that I don't know what would have been there before. the taste of silver: they played a bunch of song really quickly with no real pauses in between. by this point, it was getting kid of late. I swear their first song, they played faster than usual. so the answer to your question: their set was too short for shirt removal and rolling around on the ground. psyopus: man what can you say, amazing. they played insanely good. again, I'm impressed by every member of this band. their bass player is awesome, I give him more props because most bass players melt into the background of a band, but he's awesome. they announced that they signed to Metal Blade tonight. Awesome news. a lot is sure happening for these guys. oh, carina and I are bringing them a care package tomorrow. |
________________________________________________ [Oct 21,2004 2:00am - whiskey_weed_and_women ""] that's a pretty good idea, any thought on what they might need. maybe i can add to the care package |
______________________________________ [Oct 21,2004 2:02am - the_reverend ""] they said "healthy" things. I'm going to get them some crunchy peanut butter and strawberry jam. some bread... and some fruit. |
_________________________________________________ [Oct 21,2004 2:17am - the_taste_of_cigarettes ""] the N Cigs much-controverted review session: *Death Without Weeping: These guys ain't half bad. Dan Poulin, as well as the rest of the band, are great guys. The music is pretty damn "core"-ish, and i am usually a big core fan, though something didn't grab my attention deeply...but it's actually very unique and they stand out from the pack. Worth seeing again. *HBBSI - Did take a while to set up, this is true. Breaks between songs were also too long. For anyone that likes old school grind/noise, this is for you. I dug the style...guitar and China were too loud, but I bet Friday, on their home turf, they will own. You should hear the CD they gave me...it's actually really good and great for fans of Carcass and the ilk. *The_Network: Best show I've seen them play out of the 5 we've played with them. Good band...kinda rock star attitudes I could live without, but musically they have the right idea, as well as stage presence wise. *PFAP: FUCK YOU IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THIS BAND. It's everything you wish your band was. Most bands can only dream of being as sincere, funny, outgoing, and fucking INTENSE as these guys. I am forcing them to come on tour with us this winter. *TOS: What a workout! We rushed the whole set. Bites we got 20 minutes, but it was fun and everyone was so supportive. Thanks to everyone who danced, sang along, clapped, or whatever. Really, that was a blast. Alex almost chewed my head off for cutting the set short, but what can you do? We only had that time frame. *PsyOpus: This is going to be a fun week. They were really a blast, great musicianship, pretty tight, and the songs still were very technical without the second guitar like on the CD. Tomorrow is going to kick ass. They seem like nice guys but haven't had a chance to really talk with them yet. Greg was an INCREDIBLY appreciative guy and thanked Alex PFAP like 2,000,000 times. They all seemed pretty swell. Chris Arpman knows how to wail! I agree Fred is a great bass player. If you want the truth about Chris, it's not so much his playing that wows me...I've seen a lot of guitar virtuosoes lately...it's the fact that he can do THAT and STILL move around and flip out. Dude, that is fucking hard to rock like that and still play long tap solos, escalations, sweeps, etc. He did TONS of artificials without a pick, not using thumb technique but using the somewhat harder (at least for me) play the note then tap it with your finger one...then dive bomb with the tremolo. craziness. fun fucking show. Anyone who didn't come is gay, you missed out and I laugh at you big time. Chris from HCN reprezant! |

__________________________________ [Oct 21,2004 8:33am - succubus ""] yes i did and i noticed the mullet too and asked aaron about it heh oh and thank you to the_network for giving me a shout out !!! a lot of people kept on coming up to the rev in btwn bands and thanking him for the pics, some i guess thought i was with RTTP but nope, i'm only the rttp girl aka rttp cheerleader, others knew about me and my site but didn't say anything to me....but whatever it was great meeting hbbsi!!! |
_____________________________________ [Oct 21,2004 10:15am - birthrites ""] my ass has recovered, but i still can't bend my elbow very well. last time i was at a PFAP show kyle sent me to the hospital. good trend. mini-review: death without weeping : daaamn good set. best i've heard them in a while, they sounded really good in that room. brutal as hell. drop-b tuning will do that i guess. HBBSI: like said, way too long to set up. BUT - it was fucking great. brief and intense insanity, with nice reel-to-reel set piece. after they announced that one song was a "dancing song", tim (pfap) and i did it up. it was at this point kyle threw me into the ground and i made my exit from the show. pissed i missed the other bands, but great to see some good kids - nick, great to see you - hopefully you'll make it up next wednesday |

________________________________________________ [Oct 21,2004 12:16pm - carcinogenic_cookies ""] Here's my review: Death Without Weeping: I liked them a lot more this time around. Really cool guys, nice mix of rock and roll type riffs with Brutal death. Singer's vocals were extra sick. Great cover selection with Zombie Apocalypse and extra thanks to these guys for giving me a little guest spot on vocals. HBBSI: Didn't see much of these guys, but heard some of it. The projector was definately a good idea. Short, fast songs, and much respect for the stand up drum set. The Network: Always tight. What more can I say? PFAP: Sounded really good. It seems Alex is getting more pop out of his snare, as I could hear the blasting parts clearer than any other time. Thanks to these guys too for the vocal spot, and Rev for the pics that make me look stunning. DIE OF AIDS! TOS: Was this the order or did I fuck up? Either way TOS was very good. To me their live performances are extremely energetic and enjoyable. Lots of handclapping. Psyopus: The reason we came. The guitar player should be charged with 10 counts of guitar molestation and sodomy. Awesome to see some Aviary violence for these guys. They should be very successful on Metal Blade. I actually thought the guitar player had some sort of red finger pick, but it turned out to be blood. Can't believe they played Dover. Thanks to Tim for the golden showers and DRINKS, and Chris for the numerous Diamond Cutters. |
