Thurs March 17th: DYSRHYTHMIA moved to THE LIBRARY[views:17160][posts:70]the Library (Allston, Ma) - [continued_without_a_finding][dysrhythmia][randomshots][rosetta] [show listing] _______________________________________ [Mar 18,2005 12:10am - the_reverend ""] the turn out wasn't that great... I'm sort of let down that more people didn't get out to this show, but the people who were there enjoyed every single band. the sounds quality was probably the best it has been yet at this place. you could hear everything, mic'd or not. continued without finding: man, jon doesn't open his eyes the entire time they were playing. they played a bunch of awesome songs and a cover. I admit, I didn't know what the cover was... would someone in CWAF enlighten us? Brad's gruff-bark vocals were different. the first song sounded almost like he was trying to do death metal. The only thing bad was Tom's amp "muffled" it's self a couple times. They completely fit this bill, transitioning to more "jammie" tracks that payed the way for the bands to come. granted, conifer would have been the best to see after CWAF, but.. what can you do! rosetta: I have never heard them before and they ruled. "that sounded like Isis" - some dude "yeah, if you gave them samples and took away all the hippie" - me the singer played sample tracks off of a laptop. There were also a bunch of colored lights that were fun to play with. they reminded me a lot of Envey. At one point, the guitarist was playing his guitar with a bow. dysrhythmia: guess what, colin from Behold... the arctopus is in dysrythmia now. he was rocking the bass hard. they played a bunch of new tracks and a couple older tracks. I'm always impressed by the fact that the guitar player head bangs almost constantly. anyone else get the "weather channel" feel from a few parts of their songs? |

________________________________________ [Mar 18,2005 1:21am - JonahBloodbath ""] Yeah the turn out was pretty shitty. I had to throw down $5 out of my pocket to make sure everyone got at least gas money. I wonder if it was the venue change that threw things off and thats why more people didn't show up? maybe they all thought it was cancelled.. anyway, the sound was really good tonight. I think its cause none of the bands played super loud. Most of the time bands tend to crank it and the sound just gets muddy, but tonight everyone played at just the right level and shit sounded awesome. I was super impressed by CWAF, I think they were my favorite band of the night. The other two bands were good as well. anyway, I need to figure out how to get people to come to all ages metal shows. For some reason the straight up metal shows I book have the worst attendence of all my shows. |

__________________________________________ [Mar 18,2005 5:57am - BestialOnslaught ""] I dunno that I'd call that a "straight up Metal" show (though I haven't heard ROSETTA), stuff like DYSRHYTHMIA seems to have a very select appeal amongst fragments of the Metal, Hardcore and other scenes... I would venture to say that probably includes a bunch of older folk not as likely to come out to a basement show at 6:30 on a weeknight, and I certainly know in the case of CWAF, the people/friends that come out for them are typically older/full-time employed/what have you. The Metal shows at all the squats in Olneyville in Providence did really well, from what I experienced, cause there were not time constraints or obstacles to a BYOB/W/etc. atmosphere (which is certainly a constraint in some house and hall shows)... And I don't remember if they gave super specific directions, but the places were easy to find. I don't know how late the BCCA lets you run, but I'd certainly recommend keeping your eyes open for more isolated or warehouse-y type spaces. I can't really claim to know what the average 15-20 year old Metaller around here listens to, I guess maybe try to get bands in this age range with friends on the bills? I think the actual underground Metal scene around here is for the most part a bit older in general (than the Punk and Hardcore scenes) - I'm sure there are a lot of kids that are big into IN FLAMES, MORBID ANGEL, CRADLE OF FILTH, ARCH ENEMY, NILE, what have you, that would be receptive to new/local stuff, but I personally would not know where to begin promoting to them. I also think there's a huge potential for Metal/Punk crossover around here these days, so I definitely think some mixed genre bills would have a lot of potential. There's definitely interest on both sides, I say take advantage of it, just be mindful in building genuinely complimentary bills. I have some more specific ideas on this if you're interested. |

_________________________________________ [Mar 18,2005 10:48am - JonahBloodbath ""] when I say straight up metal I basically mean "not at all a hardcore show" anyway, I totally agree bestial |
________________________________________ [Mar 18,2005 12:27pm - Joe/NotCommon ""] That was the problem I had with all of my all ages shows, they always ended up being earlier (all asia, zeitgeist, etc) and I didn't get any new faces coming to the show, and then lost more then half my 21+ audience. |
________________________________________ [Mar 18,2005 1:26pm - JonahBloodbath ""] If its a byob venue I dont understand why the 21+ bar metal crowd wouldn't come out. That is if the show was on a friday or saturday night.. |

That is if the show was on a friday or saturday night.. Part of it is the fact the shows earlier time frames maybe? I think alot of my all asia shows ended up being on sundays and mondays...i know the zeitgeist (the byob venue) was a weekday, because of the other bands tour schedule. |
