ARE YOU SERIOUS?

I would be interested in this if you're seriously selling it.

Hey just curious while we're on the topic......any of youse guyses with fancy monitors actually using the DVI connection. And if you are, is there really any difference at all? I'm such a sucker that I bought a cheap 17 inch LCD with only a VGA connection and then a month later buy a new video card with only DVI connections so i had to go buy an adapter.

I use the DVI connection on my 24" monitor. I've wondered what the difference was myself, though, and tried both connections (VGA and DVI) going from my laptop to my monitor. I didn't really see a difference.

I know for a fact, though, that my monitor doesn't need to be adjusted (brightness, contrast, vertical & horizontal size and position) when connected to the DVI. The documentation said you can make those adjustments when connected through VGA, but they are not necessary over DVI because they are adjusted automatically. This may just be a feature of the monitor itself, though.

can anyone help me out with powerstrip? it seems like I've toyed with every thing on it, but can't get it to allow my computer to show a 1440x900 resolution.

Update, according to intel, they are no longer producing software for my graphic card/chipset and it was never compatable with 1440x900 resolutions.

and according to the admin at power strips forum, Power strip will NOT work with an intel 810 chipset.

So unless there's something else I am missing, I was right the first time I said "is it possible that this graphics card just doesn't support this monitors native resolution? ".

I believe this means I will haveto buy a new graphics card that will support a 1440x900 resolution. right?

I haven't used power strip for a long time. do a search on google for settings with your monitor.

MSD: I have the same monitor, but no DVI output on any of my computers... only VGAy.

the difference:
DVI is digital
VGA is analog

so VGA was used on analog screens. now that we have "digital" screen IOW LCDs, 1 pixel for 1 image chunk instead of analog which could just have blobs that are interpolated into colors where they happen to fall.

well, if they are all going to be bitches like that, yes.

i'm looking right now and that chip set is from 1999. does anyone here still have anything from 1999?

the monitor I have is pretty new, so isn't the company. so I haven't found much.

I'm down for just buying a new graphics card if you think it will work. I've wanted a new one for a while anyway.

I'm actually very suprized that it's that new.

it was designed to work with the PIII so that would be 1999.

sorry, I have the upgraded mobile version of that chipset Intel 855GM.

I would just get a cheap $20 video card... it would be better than what you have. you probably only support PCI.

So I'm limited to pci interface cards only?

And what chipset manufacturer would you suggest? I'm thinking Nvidia, but I don't know anything about this stuff (obv)

look at your board. does it have an AGP slot? no? then PCI is the onlything you can do.

[Jan 8,2007 8:14pm - Niccolai ""]
yea, there are only pci slots.

I'm looking on newegg, and there are PCI, PCI expressx1, and PCI express x16 cards. Does that make any difference to me? should I just go with a plain PCI card?

This is the one I'm looking at:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102533

good idea/bad idea?

you might want to get one that supports your HD monitor.
and you need PCI. I don't even have and PCIe or PCIx slots.

how fast is your processor? you are probably wasting $30 there... just look for a $20 PCI video card that supports your monitor.

Max Resolution 2048 x 1536

that card should work great

the max resolution on my current card is higher than 1440x900, but you still select a widescreen resolution.
