FUCK: myspace, JFAC, FASSW and probably you too[views:15191][posts:90]_________________________________________ [Jun 15,2006 1:06pm - GoatOfCatalyst ""] so i went to the fucking FASSW/JFAC/Cattle Decap/Misery Index/Animosity show last night in Hamden (CT) i re-arranged my guitar lessons so i could get out early and RACE to the elk's lodge to catch the SUPREMELY OVERHYPED Job For A Cowboy just to SEE what all the fucking fuss was about. I'd heard a song or two, still haven't seen the "Spongebob" thing, and thought I'd give it a fighting chance since - hey - I used to be in a pretty good death metal band when I was a CHILD, too. AND GUESS WHAT??? they fucking SUCKED!!! maybe that's a little harsh, but the hype cogs are WAAAAAY overgreased on this one. seriously, maybe if i hadn't went in there with the attitude of "impress me, children", i'd have a higher opinion of them - but NOPE. maybe i'm just bitter that the DOUCHE-LEGIONS of high schoolers made a beeline for the parking lot once Misery Index & Cattle Decap went on, only to return for the similarly NOT-NEARLY-LIVING-UP-TO-THEIR-HYPE FASSW... maybe FASSW puts on a killer fucking show with their oh-so-loveable brand of dude (douche) core. SORRY DUDES - YOU'RE NO RODNEY FUCKING DANGERFIELD. y'know, when I was younger, I was REEEEAAAAAALLLLLYYYY into Dillinger, too. they had it all - crazy offtime shit, tighter than a nun while they went completely off... but these dudes need to spend a little more time on the music, less time on the "show" or whatever you want to call it. if i wasn't completely rushed typing this at work on stolen time, i'd be far more articulate. perhaps i'll continue my rant later, but seriously - FUCK MYSPACE AND THE ENTIRE CHILD-SCENE THAT ENABLES SUCH HORSEFUCKERY TO PROSPER OVER BANDS WITH REEEEEAAAAAL TALENT (ie Misery Index and Cattle Decap who fucking SLAYED these turds) bottom line - you know it's a sad thing when the best thing about their band is the ass-shorts for the underage bitches flocking to see them... AND i probably missed a killer Law & Order sticking around for that tardfest so yeah - FUCK ALL Y'ALL |

_____________________________________________ [Jun 15,2006 1:10pm - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] But they are so br00tal and tech! heh, j/k, you are preaching to the choir man. The only band I liked on that roster is Cattle Decapitation, and mainly the last two records. |
______________________________ [Jun 15,2006 1:11pm - Yeti ""] wow that was quite a rant. i still dig JFAC, though that song on the spongebob thing is getting annoying. despite the brilliance of the segment. |
_____________________________ [Jun 15,2006 1:12pm - pam ""] JFAC had one good thing : accidentally stumbling into fame because of spongebob. When I first heard em I thought they weren't bad, but after a couple more songs I realized the error of my ways. Bowwwwing. |

______________________________ [Jun 15,2006 1:14pm - Yeti ""] there was one song on their myspace page that i really enjoyed. i havent heard much, but from what i heard i liked. |

When I first heard em I thought they weren't bad, but after a couple more songs I realized the error of my ways. Bowwwwing. Exactly. It's impressive from a brutal and technical standpoint. These guys can play. A lot of these bands can. It's like a competition. And it was exciting for a moment or so. But from the standpoint of being music you'll remember 10 years down the stretch? Nah, not for me. |
__________________________________ [Jun 15,2006 1:23pm - brian_dc ""] my big problem with JFAC was the fact that they did not look like they even cared about what they were playing. And I could see people not liking FASSW for being over the top and they do sound really noisy live. But then again, if you stand on the side of less spazzy guitarist you really hear the music...as W3 put it, new stuff sounds like Thursday mashed together with Goratory. Clearly not for everybody. But they did not make it big through myspace. they put their work in by touring almost non-stop for 3 years. |

__________________________________ [Jun 15,2006 1:26pm - brian_dc ""] this does not mean that it doesn't annoy me that the people that go to these shows and skip Misery Index and Cattle Decapitation don't piss me off. People need to get an education when they go to shows and they just hang out in the parking lot or heckle bands that don't look cool enough for their liking. |
_____________________________________________ [Jun 15,2006 1:28pm - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] For me, the look is secondary. If some band had amazing music, I could get past that. If I honestly thought Atreyu had great tunes, I wouldn't care that they were emo vampires. |

__________________________________ [Jun 15,2006 1:32pm - brian_dc ""] and that's the way to be. Specifically, I think these breakdown aficionados would love Misery Index especially if they gave them a listen instead of laughing at how metal they looked. (Since metal is ironic to scene kids) Fashion is the big thing nowadays though...it sells, and I don't get it. Keep an eye out for The Acacia Strain to start wearing makeup...which I think most people here will love...another reason to hate that band. |
_____________________________________________ [Jun 15,2006 1:34pm - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] I don't really listen to Misery Index, I bought one album but returned it. But then, I didn't really listen to Dying Fetus either. |

______________________________ [Jun 15,2006 3:28pm - Yeti ""] why do people worry so much? if some schmuck likes your band, you should be happy. who cares if they dont dress the way you approve of. yeah i dont like the "mosh hogs" who flail around at our shows, and personally i dont like the "two stepping" to our songs, but i'm not going to be a dick and tell them they cant do it. bandwagon jumpers will forever plague music. there is no stopping it. this isnt early 90's Norway with the "no mosh, no core" shit. you dont have to associate with people like that, but hey if it gets your music noticed, whats the problem? people complain so much about their music not getting out, and no one goes to shows and blah blah blah, but then when people do, if they arent in uniform to the style they are seeing, they are immediately attacked and called posers. what if you were to go to an Allman Brothers show because you like the music, but you wore a Bathory shirt, and all the old guys started shit with you and made fun of you for not being "appropriately dressed"? you'd be pretty pissed, and wonder why. just be happy someone is listening to you. i dont care much for the emo-wear, but if some emoite likes the Sac, then more power to him/her. its basically useless to say what i just said though, things wont change. |
______________________________ [Jun 15,2006 3:29pm - Yeti ""] thats not pointed at one person specifically, use of the word "you" is generalized. |

______________________________ [Jun 15,2006 3:37pm - Yeti ""] its hard to say things like what i just said though, because it bothers me as well. i love the depravity of extreme death and black metal. it sucks that corpsepaint and spikes became a household joke. the ideology it presented was great, it was something you could belong to, but it was something only a handful of people truly believed, the rest were, you guessed it, bandwagon jumpers. it sucks that the sanctity of something so pure was defiled by idiots who dont understand it, but think its "cool". |
__________________________________ [Jun 15,2006 3:40pm - brian_dc ""] at the same time, purists need something like that in order to be pissed off genuinely. Ultimately the trends will die and whatever is left behind will be much closer to the purist approach. |
