OH I GET IT SHOWS ARE A FUCKING CONTEST COOL![views:1500][posts:10]_________________________________________________ [Sep 9,2004 11:19pm - the_taste_of_cigarettes ""] jesus, why are shows all about ticket selling, tallying count at the door, etc? remember when shows were about building bands? giving the little guy a chance alongside the big guy to make a name for himself? Believe it or not, in the relatively short time I've been involed with music (in one way or another for about 11 years) clubs haven't always been doing the door "tally" or "bring people or no play for you!" thing. if they liked your style, they'd have you back again and all this shit. I hate the fact that i am competing with fellow bands. I hate that clubs want me to trick people into going just so we can play again, like it's a fucking contest. :nuke: ps - I was just checking out a couple different bands websites and saw info regarding this. Not one club in particular has made me feel this way, just various components of several clubs. |

_________________________________________ [Sep 10,2004 12:11am - Josh_hates_you ""] i did counts at the doors. but that was just cause every band got $2 for every person who said they where there for them. thats how bands got paid and encouraged them to get kids to go. and the headliner had like $100 gaurantee. |

________________________________ [Sep 10,2004 1:01am - xmikex ""] i remember once when some kids setting up a show at a VFW hall asked a band of mine to play a show. i asked them if we could be paid gas money at least and they said it depended on how many tickets we sold. i told them that we only play shows, not raffles. |
_________________________________________________ [Sep 10,2004 1:02am - the_taste_of_cigarettes ""] see now that's my kinda lingo. fuck ticket selling and fuck pay-to-play. I was told if we want to play this club in NJ I have to order tickets on line and sell them. Can you fucking belive that? I have to buy 120 tickets. Eat my shit!!!!!!!! It's a money-making scheme, and then they convince me that I can profit from it. Eat a TEN POUND BAG. |

Who sells tickets for a VFW show? Thats fucking retarded. I think VFW shows need to start happening again. They were always the best way for bands to get recognition, and that way clubs would book them more. BRING BACK THE VFWS!!!! |

This club up in Burlington that I put on the occasional show at has been in existence for many years and their policies have remained the same for the most part. They mainly run in this fashion, if you want to book a show there, the club gets the first $250 to cover staff and sound man, anything above and beyond that goes to the bands. Only problem is the low capactiy (125). So, you get a good set of bands, $8 at the door, 30 kids breaks you even. Get 100 kids in there at $8 and you've got around $550 to cover your bands. This formula has worked very well. |
