paroxysm: I thought they were going to be hydro-grind (old cephalic) because of the singers shirt, but pretty much just straight up death metal. for some reason, the singer was bent over sort of backwards singing the whole time so it was hard to get shots of the singer. bloodshot eye: this is that project that someone linked mp3s of a while ago. it was the one with randy from lamb of god on guest vocals. this time, they had some other person on guest vocals from some other band that jumped out during randy's part. the mp3s were more hardcore sounding. thiw was different, the girl's vocals are more death metal. in between the songs, the singer yelled out in french, convincing me.. but I guess she's not really canadian. the drummer was reading sheet music the whole set which I thought was weird. the end: I wasn't sure how their dillinger-esque set. the crowd still went crazy for them and the deep-bass throbbing and guitar interludes in the songs gave the crowd a chance to smoke more weed. the stage right guitar player and the singer went crazy on the stage, but the bass player was the scariest cause he was swinging his bass inches over the crowd's heads. If they played any new songs, I don't know... the singer (even though the band is from toronto) was speaking mainly in french so I missed most of the things he said. having seen them a few times before, this was the longest set that I've seen them do. cephalic carnage: guess what (josh?) the old bass player is back in the band. I guess a year out of the band was all he needed to jump back in. they were using the end's gear (cause they flew in from CO just for these couple shows). their set was awesome, as you would expect. they basically played all of the songs that they would normally do, some old some new. Zack, stage right guitar, had a sampler that he used to play the parts samples and weird noise before their songs. when they played analytical, ian from neuraxis came on stage and sang.. er.. well sort of sang. he most just screamed into the mic and then jumped into the crowd. They also did the mask thing again when they played black metal sabbath which is still cool to see live. For all those CC fans, they played 2 new songs which will be coming out on their next full length. one of which they sent out to GWB, but I forget it's title. I heard that a ton of touring will come after that. (haha, look at the bumfights sticker on the stage left guitarist. cryptopsy: first their tour manager came out and talked in french.. none of which I understood (translation afterwards: the band is hang technical dificulties so to get you pumped up, here's the heavy metal comedian). then another guy comes out and speaks in french for a about 10 minutes. I didn't understand it, but I could understand the actions he did. he warmed up to crowd and "melt the metal" (transtation from carina). first he had people move their necks into head banging. then had people shakes their hands in a sign of the horns. finally, he had the crowd do a death metal scream and a do-re-mi of metal screaming. so cryptopsy's set starts... across the room there is a bunch of ceremonial pikes standing straight up in the air. the pikes are born by sheilded warriors. in front of them is a nosteratu character carrying a communion type box. behind them, 6 ghost figures carrying a coffin. they march through the crowd to the stage. when they get there, succubi hop on to the stage and remove the coffin lid. from the coffin raises lord worm. after a few french words, a longer version of the intro to none so vile, crown of horns starts. The crod started going nuts. I was standing in the crowd and it was very are to get any shots with my camera above my head. personally, I didn't get excited until slit your guts started. the beginning riffs were impecibly amazing. I think for the 3rd song, a old guitarist came out on stage and played for a few of the songs. During dead and dripping I was back behind flo wishing I had a video mode on my camera to capture the blur of his feet on his pedals. for phobophile, one of the succubi was on the keyboards in the back and played the beginning piano part.. Another surprise was Matrin (the last new singer on the 2002 tour) came out and sang lichmistress with lord worm. he came back out after that later on in the set. None so vile came to an end and all the members got off the stage except flo. he went completely off on the drums. tons of flashing lights in synch with his drumming. after about 5 minutes, he slowed it down and it looked like it was over but then he brought it back and played for another 5 minutes. drum sticks were flying all over the place as he played. I swear in the last 2 minutes he went through a dozen or more sticks. after 10 minutes of amazing drumming, the rest of the band came back on the stage and played a bunch of tracks. towards the end of their 1 1/2 hr set, lord worm picked up his chalice and ate a worm. then he started feeding worms to people in the audience. the singer for cephalic carnage came out too and ate a worm. I think the song before/during the worms was white worms, but I was too busy snapping pictures to pay attention. I'm pretty sure that this set will go down in my memory banks in the top 10 of shows that I've ever been to. everyone at the show was immensely polite. even when one of of cryptopsy's people told me to get off the stage, he was insanely polite about it. for the whole night I was mainly in the pit and on the edges of the pit shooting; yes, people would hit into me, but I never once really got pushed over and was never punched. the only person I wanted to beat the whole night was the dumb fuck who was behind me feeling up my chest (yes, I'm a guy) while I was trying to get across the pit during cryptopsy. dude, I'm a dude.
