There's a lot of quiter bits that most certainly aren't typical 'black' metal. Certainly dark music, like maybe Scratch Acid or early Swans, but not what you'd normally hear from the Darkthrone/early Burzum school. I look forward to hearing more from this guy. |

Too many releases and I hate to say it but they start to sound the same / lose their sense of originality. There isn't much progression from one release to another...Don't get me wrong, I love most of the releases, I just dont need any more and I may trade off one or two of those ones I dont listen to as much simply because I dont need THAT much Xasthur... |

| ____________________________________ [Feb 5,2006 11:02am - foghladha ""] leviathan's verranter 2cd of his demos and other items can be purchased at aquarius records in calf. they are online. the split lp with blackdeath is great. wrest also is in a band called twilight also. when nachtmystium played middleeast, they played a twilight song. maelfic from xasthur sang with sunnn that night. i find xasthurs music to be really awe inspiring and dark ambient. judas iscariot is great and has some things to say and i want to listening to a ceiling fan ill put on some cannibal corpse. akhenaten was doing things in the usa before a lot of people in the burzum vien. the new burzum rarieties cd has the sought after video on one side of the cd called dunkelheit. this is a vid full of rune and nature shots going to the song and was really hard to get till now. craft is an awesome black metal band that i think adds some great rock and roll riffs to their music. you should also check out shining and nokturnal mortum. the thing that makes a lot of these bands great is they listen too and are into all sorts of music and have many ideas. everything isnt just about metal. when i talk with these people i always end up in conversations about old school punk rock (from the meat men to gg allin) or (discharge to final conflict) and other music too. people that just listen to metal all the time and think one way are going to come out with boring bands. |

The Xasthur/Leviathan split is kinda disposable. 7 Xasthur songs (incl a cover and a rehearsal track) and only 3 leviathan songs. The Leviathan/Iuvenes split is good, 5 Leviathan tracks. The Crebain and Black Death splits are probably my favorites. As for Xasthur, I definitely view him as being in a more ambient black sort of vibe, like more midperiod (?) burzum as compared to the earlier stuff. Id basically agree with bestialonslaught's assesment except throw in the observation that To Violate the Oblivious is better than Telepathic With the Deceased. |
