niccolai said:
I need new snare heads. I've been experimenting with different stuff but I'm unhappy with my results so far. I want a high pitch, short crack like I'm hitting a block of wood. I'm looking for the sound similar to the snare on the In My Sorrow tracks. (myspace.com/inmysorrow). any recomendations for batter and snareside heads are apreciated.
I have the answer... If the drum is metal, 14" & strong quality.... Use a clear ambassador on the bottom, with 1 of those snares that are enclosed in a metal case. on the top, use a remo K Fallam head (coated or clear) and tighten the fuck out of it. It's made for corps/marching drums. They are made of 2 normal skin layers & 1 layer of kevlar. You could tune the thing with a fuckin impact wrench & it won't break. The one on my snare is almost 3 yrs old... high, loud, short fast "crack".
