I'm not too into bands that strive to have a shitty sound, but I also am not too into super polished Bob Rock shit either. Black metal has had this underlying trend of shit production that has turned into a fad as of late.

EXACTLY. With technical DM, you should be able to hear the technique, not raw muddiness.
Necrophagist is one of the most innovative and amazing DM bands today, advancing the boundaries of what DM, and metal in general, can be.
I think Necrophagist and similar talented technical bands (Spawn of Possession, Martyr, Meshuggah to name a few) are true EXTREME metal bands. They are pushing music to the extremes of technicality, speed, recording quality, etc.

I'll still listen to and enjoy raw-sounding DM. Like older Deeds of Flesh (and some other Unique Leader stuff), the riffs are really awesome but harder to hear because of the production.
It's just more of a strain on your ears to have to listen to poor production. The music of lots of metal bands is already really chaotic and unpredictable, so being able to hear it better helps you appreciate the riffs and song structures.

Muhammeds playing is totally ridiculous. Ill admit the new necrophagist and that repress isnt as good as older necrophagist but give them credit were its due. lol same goes with deeds of flesh gradually melted was fucking amazing however im not as into their new shit. If you want good technical DM check out odious mortem their new disc just came out on UL its pretty damn crazy, definatly for necrophagist fans.

NECROPHAGIST is the best extreme band I have ever heard.
This is ellite stuff and is not for black metal kids. With a crappy sound production, you won't be able to hear the extreme technical perfection of Muhhamed and his bandmates.
If you need a shitty production, why don't you just mess up the sound you find too "polished" and listen to the final result instead? Use SoundForge ;)
