______________________________ [Jun 14,2005 1:47am - blue ""] mass halls are absurdly expensive. it sucks. |
______________________________________ [Jun 14,2005 3:35am - Philonymous ""] yea I remember while I was in high school I used to always go to Reflections and see shows, it was pretty awesome, in my opinion, but Reflecions in no more all I know of in the New Bedford area is New Wave but they only recently started having all ages shows but Im sure you can rent out a VFW or some shite Fall River has the P.A.L. |

I still did it myself. because you aren't part of a DIY crowd, duh. Make some patches with a felt tip marker and scorn anyone who is NOT "DIY" and maybe we'll talk then. |
_________________________________ [Jun 14,2005 10:43am - mOe_rk ""] I can see how 21+ shows CAN be DIY, but if you ask me, excluding someone because o fsomething about them they cant help is really stupid and not very healthy for a DIY scene. If you ask me telling someone they cant enjoy music becaus of how old they are is FUCKING BULLSHIT. No different than tellling someone they cant enter a show because they're black or gay. Maybe i'm looking at this thw wrong way, but i dont give a fuck. I HATE 21+ shows! |
__________________________________________________ [Jun 14,2005 11:16am - the_taste_of_cigarettes ""] In Joe's defense, he doesn't set the club rules, he just follows them. I mean honestly, everyone would like to see more flexibility with things like time, price, and age limits. But how do we change that? Having shows shut down, especially ones with big guarantees and big crowds, is disasterous, so to prevent that from happening you often have to play by the rules. Everyone's thought of opening an all ages space, but it takes money and time, of which most of us have neither in abundance. so the questions is, how do we get around that, legit-style? |
_________________________________ [Jun 14,2005 11:49am - mOe_rk ""] my rant wasnt directe at Joe, just the idea of 21+ shows in general. I know there's not much to be done to change what happens in that respect, but it doesnt mean i have to like it. |
_________________________________ [Jun 14,2005 1:55pm - Paulll ""] There is no room for DIY anymore all of "underground" music is coporate now. people are starting to litsen to it now and all of a sudden it costs like 4 grand to book a metal band.....right. I remember a few years back I booked the red chord at the salem elks lodge. I flyerd the hell out of the show and the show was sold out literally. There was like 200 something people packed into the salem elks. Only one fight happened nothing got broken and I made all my money back plus money for the bands, and some for myself. Not many shows like this happen anymore, and its a shame. It seems now that no one respects the halls, no one cares enough to show up, and no one can afford to pay for the bands booking costs. |
________________________________ [Jun 14,2005 2:33pm - Hooker ""] Young kids don't give a shit about local bands. Unless you have a (scene label) after your band name on a flyer, they won't seek you out. |
