However, rumor has it that bands being considered as a headliner so far include Beyond the Embrace, Suicide Dream, and Fates Warning. But, if there's enough clamor on rttp for other candidates, whoever's in charge might catch wind of it and consider those bands as well, after all a LOT of people in the metal scene check in here from time to time. |

___________________________________________ [Jul 10,2005 6:30pm - ravenoussquirrel ""] OK, all the bands suggested above are really good, but I think there needs to be a reality check here. If the "rumored" headliners are truly being considered, those are bands that can easily draw a few hundred people in CT. But the bands being suggested here would draw AT MOST 40 - 50 people (and that's being generous). If the person/people booking this thing were to catch wind of this thread and listen to our suggestions, they would have to be crazy to take that kind of trade off. Despite the fact that the ctmetalfest page makes the guy sound like he's in it for the music (very cheap tickets, no metalcore), renting out such a big venue requires a headliner that can really draw if the show is to just break even. Sorry, I'm not trying to be a dick, just being realistic. |

I don't know if there's ever been a "festival" there before, but it's a good place for one because there are a couple different ways to set things up. The shows I've gone to have used the smaller set up which holds roughly 300 people, but the Pavilion also opens up to a huge field that could probably hold another couple thousand people and their cars. Personally, being from CT myself, I'm inclined to agree that this state sucks and people here don't give a fuck, so I think the smaller set up is much more realistic. But I'd love to be proven wrong. ___________________________________ [Jul 16,2005 4:18pm - ShadowSD ""] WOW. I don't know how word about this spread so quickly (I only posted the ctmetalfest page less than a week ago), but I've been bombarded by phone calls/e-mails over the last few days from bands wanting to get on this. I guess I can't complain, I'm glad the word about the fest is getting out so quickly, and I appreciate all the suggestions made so far. I figure I might as well put everything out in the open at this point, that way everyone knows what to expect before contacting me. Right now, I'm looking to get between 1 - 3 headliners. A headliner would be a band that can guarantee at least 150 people. I know that's a high number, but I really want this to be successful. (I won't even put Suicide Dream in as one of the headliners unless I'm sure we can guarantee at least that number) So far I've pursued the following avenues: I've e-mailed Testament's management, asking what kind of pay guarantee they'd want, assuming they can do the date. Testament had actually been in negotiations with The Webster Theatre in Hartford, CT about playing a show there in September, but they were unable to come to an agreement (I know this because we often play with nationals there, and we were promised a slot with Testament when they came around, so I was constantly keeping tabs on the show with the guy who does booking at The Webster). However, Testament has since booked dates Japan the weekend before the 24th, and dates in Mexico (if I remember correctly) the weekend after, so scheduling may be an issue. Also, a buddy of mine knows Rob Thorne from Sacred Oath, who is good friends with Fates Warning, so I'm trying to contact them through that avenue. In the meantime, I sent an e-mail to Fates through their website, mentioning Rob's name as a reference. Also, Metal Fortress DJ Chrissy Root, who posted a glowing review of our band's last show, recently did an interview with the lead singer from Nevermore. I've asked her to get me a phone number so I can get in touch with their management as well. Out of the bands suggested to me so far, those are the only ones I'm sure would bring in 150+ people to CT. Of course, if anyone wants to debate me on that, I'm totally willing to listen, and I'll gladly consider other headliners as well. Regardless of the number of headliners, there will be fourteen support bands. The way it's shaping up, about half of them will be from within an hour of the venue, and the other half will be from MA, RI, and Southwestern CT. The seven bands within an hour of the venue will have to guarantee selling a minimum of thirty tickets to be put on the show, and the seven bands coming from further away will have to guaratnee selling a minimum of twenty-five tickets to be put on the show. 7 * 30 + 7 * 25 = 385 tickets minimum, so even if I can only get one headliner despite my best efforts, that will equal a minimum crowd of over 500 throughout the day/night, which means that every band playing should have a crowd of at least 250 watching them. That's great exposure for everyone involved, plus all support bands will make a minimum of $100 -$150. I've had most of the support bands handpicked since the beginning, but I am still taking suggestions on a the remaining slots, and I've contacted a few of the bands here that have been mentioned a lot (Cryptic Warning; tried to contact Catalyst but myspace was being gay and their contact page doesn't work, please post an e-mail address or phone number; also want to get in touch with HBBSI if there's an e-mail or phone number, I don't have AIM) Thanks again for all the suggestions coming, keep them coming... \m/ |

___________________________________ [Aug 5,2005 4:56pm - BornSoVile ""] yeah, the only two bands I remember seeing on it was fucking SUMMON and FECAL CORPSE. There were a few other Wretched Asylum type bands on it as well, you know gimmicky stuff. |
__________________________________ [Aug 5,2005 5:36pm - dreadkill ""] wretched asylum type bands? i hope that's not true. i've talked to shadow about getting my band on this, and we'll be on as soon as we send in ticket money. he said it is going to feature real metal bands as opposed to nu-metal and metalcore gimmick bands. i was hoping to hear about rttp bands getting added. what bands have you heard about? |
_________________________________ [Aug 5,2005 8:03pm - bleddry ""] He's just confusing it with another show on the same weekend. Gothstock is at The Webster Theatre in Hartford, and has a bunch of gimmicky bands playing. CTMetalfest is at The Outdoor Pavilion in Windham, and is 100% real metal from the sounds of things. The two shows have absolutely nothing to do with each other. |
______________________________________________ [Aug 5,2005 10:00pm - BobNOMAAMRooney nli ""] Gothstock? I hope the kids from the projects shoot everyone who attends that show. |
___________________________________ [Aug 5,2005 11:10pm - the dude ""] ct sucks no one ever shows up to any shows there |

_________________________________ [Sep 5,2005 9:36am - Sinistas ""] There's a bunch of diverse bands playing this show. If you don't like the styles, that's fine, but there's really no need to bash it. |
