Bugs and Rats is coming out, that ball was already rolling and I will work on it. It's a great record and I hope some of you are able to check it out. All other releases scheduled (Raising Kubrick/The Taste of Silver split, Sonic Obliteration, Kevorkian's Angels, and new Conifer) are not going to happen, as NC releases anyway. Thank you to everyone who supported what I was doing these last few years, I had alot of fun with it. I will continue to book metal shows, but on a much smaller basis then I have been, probably at most, 1 show per month. Metalcore is and will always be fucking gay. |

No worries about it. I've done it before and it's a piece of cake, any person on this board can do it if they have the drive and maybe $100 to lose when the turnout sucks. But book good enough shows, with the right mix of bands who don't overkill by playing around here 4-5x/month, and people will come out. But it's still sad to see NotCommon slow down, he had some interesting stuff on his label. |

BIG PROPS to Joe, Liz and Jess (Anne too) for everything they've done. Some of the best shows I've been too/played were shows they've set up. You're right. I play O'Briens and the Chopping Block for peanuts all the time and I think I'm in a platinum band. I like bars and I hate kids. Thats why I don't like VFW shows. (and I know VFWs have bars but they usually aren't open during all-ages shows) I suppose if there was a really good line up a VFW show could be good but every VFW show I've heard of was all faggotty Converge/Cave In type shit. |

As for Not Common being a shitty label, whatever, he had alot of balls to shift from punk to metal. Ray= 100% correct. The only good thing that could come out of this whole lack of promoters is that there will be less shows. So maybe all the metalheads will go to one of the 1-3 metal shows a month (as opposed to the 10+ shows) And if the attendance is pretty good, that booker will not have to pay out of pocket, and in turn they will book more shows. It's a pretty simple concept, when there are like 6 metal shows all on the same night (april 2nd for example) what do you expect for turnout? this is metal not cover bands. Joe gave Anoxia their first boston gig. Maybe people will actually come to RI shows now, and maybe I'll book something again. |

I've been to a lot of NC shows that were fun as hell, and I think the releases are solid enough to keep moving, hopefully to the point of the label coming back with more force. It's a shame about the festival, as I too expected a better turnout, and a lot of people missed out on some amazing sets... I think some of the criticisms in this thread ring true, not against Joe, but in general of the insular nature of this "scene" and the need to reach out to more people in order to get more people out to shows. I, for one, would get into more hall/basement shows, as long as the lineups are cool, which is way too rarely the case. It'd be good for the "bar bands" to get in front of the all ages crowds more (and the DIY/hall type bands certainly could benefit from playing in front of bar crowds as well). Overall, I'm optimistic... There have been a handful of sell out shows at O'Brien's lately, I thought GRIEF got a great reception at the fest, there are a lot of good bands around here, there are new people willing to step forward and book shows... All signs point to lots of activity, no matter who's booking it. |

If I stopped booking shows, then whoever tried to "carry the torch" or whatever, would most likely stop after 1 or 2 poorly attended shows. I am good at promoting shows, and if you disagree you are stupid and wrong. I don't know how NotCommon was never a real record label, we had distribution in stores, online, other record labels and press in zines, radio and TV. What would have made us a real record label? Like Josh Martin said, but none of you even read because you are ignorant, none of the bands were tied into a contract, but all wanted to keep working with me. I know some of the bands had been approached by other labels, including Century Media in one case, but stuck with me. I am not impressed with Rusted Angel's weak attempt at bashing me or my label. NotCommon is something I do for myself, always was. I book shows I want to see, I release albums I want to hear. I want the shows to have good attendance, so I can do more at the club, or get the band back. I have high hopes for the "scene" in Boston and I think I do alot to help it along. If you don't think so, then good. You are the element I don't want to work with. There are plenty of alternatives for the close minded people who think I am close minded for not booking shows to be popular. This isn't a fucking democracy, it's me. I won't book some band I don't like because a bunch of dickheads who never support other shows think I should. Use your brain. My shows might have slowed down this summer, but that is because there have been so many other shows and colleges being out. Impaled @ the middle east had well over 100 people, the fest had 200 each day, Cephalic Carnage had 160+, Bongzilla had 80+, Disengaged cd release @ the middle east sold out, the majority of choppin block shows had 50 people, and plenty of my other shows have done well. Sabbat will sell out in September, as will Total Fucking Destruction in October. I know that if I stopped booking shows that things would continue without me, but it wouldn't be the same (good or bad is a matter of opinion). I care about what happens, obviously I don't see eye to eye with alot of you people, but I don't see any of you doing shit so fuck off.
