Why the hell did I buy a Nintendo DS?[views:9470][posts:40]_______________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 12:27pm - the_reverend ""] WTF.. they release no games for it... they are rumored to "replace" it soon too. |
_______________________________ [Aug 21,2005 12:55pm - blue ""] i say the exact same thing as well. all the titles suck big ass. |
____________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 12:56pm - dyingmuse ""] yeah, that's gay. they will have 80 new gameboys by years end! they really have to to keep up with the psp. though i heard the ds was real cool...how are the games that you do have? i have always been a nintendo fanboy. they have the best games....just not enough. |
______________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 12:56pm - RustedAngel ""] nintendo sucks. |
______________________________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 1:00pm - learn playpker online free ""] I have a metroid demo and SMB that's it. all the other games are queer as folk. there is one games that looks ok, castlevania... but that was "suppose" to be out in a week and I've heard nothing about it. |
______________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 1:00pm - the_reverend ""] oops that was me. |
_____________________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 1:05pm - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] I have been enjoying my Metroid Prime Hunter demo, and if you want a great game get Advance Wars Dual Strike which is just coming out. Once MP Hunters full version comes out there should be some wi-fi fun for us older owners. Nanostray isn't bad if you like Shmups, and Super Mario DS was okay because I didn't play the Mario 64 version so it was pretty new to me to play it on the handheld. That Kirby game is awesome, but kiddy. Nintendogs is just coming out too, supposed to be the first 'killer app' for DS but I have absolutely no interesting in raising a virtual puppy. I hope they put out some better games myself, but the system has many promising possibilities. I don't think they are replacing the DS, they are just releasing that 'Gameboy Micro' which plays the GBA games, which we can also play in our DS. Heres to hoping some more 'mature' games come out for the DS. Certainly had a weak launch lineup. |

_____________________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 1:17pm - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] Check out Gamestop's review of Advance Wars Dual Strike, Rev, they scored it over a 9 if I am correct. It could be what you are looking for? If you like cute/strategy war stuff. |
_____________________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 1:19pm - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] blue said:thats the problem, nintendo is a company notorious for only realeasing kiddie games. Kiddie or not, I enjoy most of the Mario and Zelda titles that come out for their systems. Double Dash is great with friends, so are the Mario Golf and Tennis games that came out recently (last year?). There are some great games on GameCube like the Metroid Primes, and for GBA I just got that new shmup/RPG hybrid Sigma Star Saga which is cool and you can play it on your DS of course. But GBA rules. |
______________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 1:20pm - the_reverend ""] AWDS looks pretty good http://www.gamespot.com/ds/strategy/advanc...t=ds_advancewrzds_vr_ds1_081905.asx castlevania has been pushed back to october and doesn't look that much better than the GBA versions. I want a zelda of FF |
______________________________ [Aug 21,2005 1:23pm - blue ""] yeah, i was waiting for goldeneye, and then i saw it blew. no games are taking advantage of the graphics engine, either. then i was waiting for metroid, and then i realized it wasnt going to come out for another 6 months. |
_____________________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 1:24pm - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] Yeah, I'm not too happy with the lineups yet for either of the new handhelds, I haven't even bought a PSP yet because I know I won't play anything besides that new Wipeout, Lumines and MAYBE the Metal Gear card game. They need killer apps and soon. |
________________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 3:16pm - grundlegremlin ""] Can you say Virtual Boy?DS seems very gimmicky and Nintendo is pretty famous for that. The Revolution system seems cool though, just for the fact that you will be able to download old NES/SNES/N64 games right to the system, and some will be available with updated graphics.DS fucking blows, buy a PSP. |
_____________________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 3:23pm - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] The DS is no Virtual Boy, it has already sold extremely well, and if I'm not mistaken it has outsold the PSP (?!?). In Japan I guess Nintendogs along sold like a million DS units. I do not favor particular consoles, I buy them all because they usually all have some merit and some great games. I own a DS and will inevitably buy a PSP too, there is no reason I can't enjoy them all. I have the DS in my hand. It is not 'gimmicky'. The touch screen and dual screens could be put to excellent use if the right software comes along, but that is what it comes down to. Games (which the Virtual Boy did not have). Not to mention, chat and wi-fi gaming...which is fun as hell with Metroid Prime Hunters demo, so I can only imagine how cool it will be with the full version, if that comes out before I actually die of old age. When Animal Crossing DS comes out, though, my unit is gone. My girlfriend will buy that game, take my DS and I may never see it again! :whipper: |

_____________________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 3:29pm - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] grundlegremlin said:^True.I just don't like the thing at all. I can see how people wouldn't like it yet. It really needs some good games. So does the PSP before I lay down over $300 for the unit, a game, and an extra memory flash card. |
______________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 4:13pm - the_reverend ""] I'm not against any system either. right now, I own: PS2 nintendo Ds GBA downstairs, I have a still working turbo graphic 16. that was my favorite video game system.. still sort of is. so many good memories with that thing, blasing ministry "land of rape and honey", the pixies, skinny puppy, and the cure while playing games. I probably will get the PS3 when it comes out and I'm thinking about getting a used saturn with a billion games. |
______________________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 4:26pm - BobNOMAAMRooney nli ""] I tried a demo of Pac Pix for DS the other day and it seemed really cool. I wasn't aware that Hunters isn't out yet, thought that was a launch title. |

_____________________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 5:20pm - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] I've got: PS1, PS2, SNES, NES, Dreamcast, Saturn, Genesis (with 32x add-on), GameGear, GBA SP, DS, XBOX, Atari Jaguar, TurboGrafx16, GameCube, N64, and obviously PC, I won't even get into emulation >:] Videogames, one of the few things I love as much as metal... Splatterhouse ruled. Did you know there were sequels? |

______________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 5:31pm - the_reverend ""] there should have been splatterhouse sequels. that game did rule. blazing lazers too. and that game where you did adventures and then raced for your battles. |

____________________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 6:28pm - Hung_to_Bleed_nli ""] DS seems like it has all little kid games, thats why I bought a psp, even though the damn thing costs an arm and a leg. Older version of the psp software are set up in a way that you can put emulators on them and load them up with old games |
___________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 6:56pm - dyingmuse ""] nintendo rocks...i can't say anything at all about the ds because i don't have one. but nintendo has always had the best games. my gamecube has indeed been sitting for a while now, but that's because of the lack of games. this is my second time buying the gc. re,metroid, zelda, mario, skies of arcadia, eternal darkness. there were some awesome games. and i can't freakin' wait for the new zelda! |
_____________________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 7:07pm - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] You can get flash cards to load your emus on DS/GBA as well Have been able to for years. See, I don't see how a game is necessarily better because it has blood gore and tits, or any boring shit I can see on TV 24/7. Who cares if games like Zelda and Metroid appeal to kids too? The bottom line for a game is whether or not it is well-designed and fun. Innovation counts too, but not necessary. Look at Katamari Damacy! Great game, easily I could say it's for kids but it rocked. |

_______________________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 10:40pm - Chris_From_Shit_Fuck ""] I work at Best Buy in Framingham in the Media department, and this thing sold like crazy for about a month. Then it died, cause everyone realized that there are like no games out for it. Then the PSP came out, and that's selling like crazy too, even though there are no games for that either. Little kids love the freakin' DS though, they love the touch sensitive screen. |
__________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 10:48pm - xdunnyx ""] Quite Frankly i enjoy the DS, Pac Pix is way fun but too short, Warioware :touched is addictive as hell, and Kirby: canvas curse is actually a hard game. Now that Zelda has been pushed back until April 06, I'll actually have time to play all the great games coming out in the fall/winter release alone expect to play the new castlevania, mario kart, animal crossing, mario & luigi 2, new super mario bros, metroid prime pinball and a couple weird but interesting games : Phoneix Wright Ace Attorney and Trauma Center: under the knife (come on, its surgery! how fun is that going to be). Someone said a while back that the DS in japan outsold the ps2 or something like that. When nintendogs launched in japan, DS outsold both PSP and PS2 combined. |
_____________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 10:51pm - NateTheWar ""] there were 2 Splatterhouse sequels i think.. both on the genesis, both were good, too, from what i remember.. the orignal though was just creepy as fuck, music and everything... it would be great to see a "newer" tasteful version of that game.. except for the fact that Silent Hill and Resident Evil seem to be pretty close to what you'd expect of something like that |
______________________________________________ [Aug 21,2005 10:53pm - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] Yeah I'm also curious about Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney and Trauma Center: Under the Knife, both look like unique new concepts for games and I hope they live up to the hype. |
______________________________ [Aug 22,2005 1:29am - Lamp ""] I never owned a DS myself but a couple of my friends do. I thought Super Mario DS was some good times, I like the new twists to the old N64 game. Warioware Touched was pretty addictive too. I didn't like that Metroid Hunters demo though. Too complicated for me to use the thumb thing and try and lay bombs and whatnot. |
_____________________________________________ [Aug 22,2005 7:15am - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] Metroid Prime Hunters definitely requires some acclimitization, what I like though is that you can choose either touch screen or standard controls for just about anything (except some of the more bizarre games which are clearly more suited for the stylus). |
_____________________________________ [Aug 22,2005 10:26am - babyshaker ""] i have a psp i only have one rpg game casue im lazy and its ok all in all but i wansnt very impressed with it...idk |
________________________________________ [Nov 4,2005 1:30pm - Kessaris V.2.0 ""] The DS was meant to be innovative with their stylist type of control mechanism where you touch to play...thats it's main goal it also has backwards capability for GBA or regular GB games. I personally did not enjoy playing this thing. It felt akward and rushed. The graphic engine was not up to date as far as what they could have done and it lacked a lot of what it could have produced. The few good titles they have for it were delayed, cancelled, or had major problems with them. Pretty much you're stuck with puzzle games on this thing. Or Nintendogs...pick your poision. I'd recommend a PSP if you're not into the stylist thing. It costs more, but the titles you'd expect to see on a portable are there. |
____________________________________________ [Nov 4,2005 1:53pm - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] I love it. It's not as light as a GameBoy but I have been enjoying some great gaming lately with the DS. Not all the great games are puzzles. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow is simply sick, one of the best incarnations of the 2-D franchise yet. The best since Symphony of the Night. Advanced Wars: Dual Strike is extremely fucking fun. Lost in Blue, Nintendogs, Trauma Concept, and Phoenix Wright also rule, and wait until you see what is coming out in the near future...it does have some puzzle games but there are good ones like Meteos. These are all 'good titles'. I realize Metroid Prime: Hunters is delayed, but it will be worth it. There is a reason the DS is outdistancing both the PSP and PS2 in sales in the country where they all originated. |
___________________________________________ [Nov 4,2005 2:39pm - Hung_TO_Bleed_NLI ""] I think I have said this before somewhere around here regarding a similar statement. "Thats why I bought a PSP" > Fuckin hell right man, Socom comes out on Tuesday....thats the only game I'll ever need. |
____________________________________________ [Nov 4,2005 2:48pm - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] I've tried a few of the PSP games, and enjoyed them despite their flaws, like Metal Gear Acid and Death Jr. The only mind-blowing game I've seen so far on that system is Lumines. It's just not enough yet for me to drop $249 + $100 for a decent memory card, then $39 more for a game. For $50 more I can buy the XBox 360 this month....and that is absurd. I have no interest in the file sharing or UMD movies, I can do that all right here at home. |
