[QUOTE="Ryan%20from%20HBBSI%20still%20isnt%20logged%20in:305998"]this is a rant i found on the htfd craigslist: Am I the only one who sees people well enough to complain but not to help themselves. I was always under the impression that america (not capped on purpose because if these people are americans this country deserves NO more respect) is about giving yourself a hand up,,, not waiting for a hand out. I wanted to lead the ski bum life when I was a kid, I was literally homeless for two winters. I slept in lean tos, friend's homes, SNOWBANKS, I woke up one morning, pulled myself into the fetal position for warmth, and had the entire front half of my sleeping quarters removed by a state plow on top of rte4. If you want get it, how about while you are looting walmart steal two bottles of gatorade (not all you can carry), and A GOD DAMNED BOAT!!! If its that bad row your ass along. I live in New England, this storm had no effect on me what so ever, I saw it coming a week in advance,,, from Africa. People say, "What would you do if you were there?" I'd have left, the whole time I was homeless I was also carless, I hitched everywhere, get a shave, a haircut, no hat no shades, walk where you want to go ("GOD" helps those who help themselves)and A SIGN. Thats all you'd have needed, "Running from KATRINA PLEASE HELP". I have been picked up with a sign that said simply "KILLINGTON" and a snowboard on my back. To all of you who left, I do feel for you and your losses. To any of you helping your selves, like the people in the tent city run by the National Guardsman I saw on TV, organizing with churches and medical institutions and getting themselves some help BLESS YOU and RIGHT ON, you people are AMERICANS. And when the government sends help to a tent city, what did they send?? porta johns?? food??? water??? ice??? NOPE,, THEY SENT FUCKING TENTS. Proof positive of two things, one, with 10.5 BILLION(tax)DOLLARS and our finest minds, our government can fuck anything up, OH YEAH and two, if you want it done right GIT OFF YER AS N' GIT ER DONE! It is not the "Government"'s job to save you, its your job, it is the governments job to HELP. Now my grandfather used to say 50 years ago "Never build on the low side of the road". The parties responsible built on the low side of THE FRIGGING OCEAN, and then to insure total devastation they put a huge lake behind the city. Is this like when its a total surprise that theres an earthquake in California, or a forest fire out west? I have been from Dallas to the east end of the i 10 and I was surprised that that whole damn thing wasnt swept right into the ocean. I never got to go to Mardi Gras, I dont live in the seat of all that wonderful Cajun cooking, the people that left understood the inconviences and the quiet agreement coastal humans have always had with the all powerful water. They elected to make those sacrifices for the beauty and culture of that region. I elected to not have hurricaines and live underwater, no Mardi Gras is a price to pay, I think a fair one, and probably all the people not moving back agree. The moral of the story: On a long enough timeline Darwin was right, we humans are in desperate need of common sense, and we will only give the finger to this planet so many times before it simply passes our race like a wet fart.
