Raven made the game under the supervision of Id using the doom3 engine. Raven has used the quake3 engine before to make the soldier of fortune series games and... I forget what else. I'd take q3a over UT to the grave, but others prefer UT. Also, for the record, I did have a lot of fun with the original UT. I thought UT2003 and UT2004 were ridiculously horrible though. I don't know how they did it, but they (in my opinion) actually managed to make the graphics look worse than circa 1999 quake3. |

I greatly prefer UT2004 over UT2003, I actually like the graphics but they are not exactly cutting edge. I also like the price point. UT2004 was $20 on release, most of the other big shooters are $50 (or more, HL2 released at $55). |

Awesome graphics (for the time), great engine, fluid controls and movement, easy and versatile console. There's endless tweaking without having to know anything about modding or mapping. The feel of id engines are just great in my opinion. The looks and movement/controls just feel good. I think I'd give the Farcry engine the award for worst feeling engine ever. Everything about the gameplay in that game was horrible. I couldn't even stand to play it with cheats enabled. |

I also went out and bought the Quake IV dvd pack and put it next to my lcd for motivation to beat Doom 3, I'm not allowed to install it until I finish it. I should be done D3 on wed night. After looking at the Quake IV screenshots I can't wait, especially multiplayer! |

| _____________________________________ [Dec 6,2005 10:19am - RustedAngel ""] so I bought my friends Leadtek A400, Nvidia 6800 GT for $200 (he paid $300 a few months ago when it was new) which is one of the fastest remaining AGP cards you can get aside from the ultra. I'm letting him use my old Radeon 9800 pro until he can afford a newer pci-x system. So far this thing rules and performancewise it's about 2x better than my 9800 . I can't MAX everything out @ 1600 x 1200 with anti aliasing in quake 4 or doom 3 but I can definitely be comfortable maxed out at 1024x768 but fps does drop during heavy battle. I think this thing should easily last me until next summer when the new pentium chips come out. here's some pictures of it, the heatsink is huge and takes up 2 pci slots, my friend actually took of the grey cover and stock fan and put a cpu fan on it instead and it cools it much better. I guess dust builds up over the screen really quick too. [img] |
