_______________________________________________ [Nov 9,2005 9:11pm - mark fucking richards ""] my cousin told me about this a few weeks ago. i thought i would remember, but i guess i didn't. i've wanted to see darkane for years, and alas i have missed the opportunity. i am a fuckface. |
_____________________________________ [Nov 9,2005 9:23pm - the_reverend ""] darkane: they were the reason that I conviced myself to head out to the show. after all the lack of sleep, I couldn't justify missing them. the last time I remember them being in the USA was somewhere around 00-01 and I missed it. one of the guitarists looked familiar. he spent most of his time out in front, inches from te crowd. they had to share a bus with syl. I'm surprised they all fit on one bus. they have 4 CDs out now. I wished that they played all of rusted angel, but that wasn't to be. the singer's vocals were perfect. it sounded just like the CD and whenever there was not singing to be done, he would run off stage and wait for his part, giving the rest of the band the spot light. unfortunately, they weren't head lineing so their set was mega short. strapping young lad: insert loooooooong sound check and set up time... gr... their set is like a speed metal train wreck.. it is poetry in motion. this was a weird performance even for them. devon said all the normally absurd townsend things, but it was just weird. he kept telling the crowdthat they were a different location (ike phoenis). tere are also a large amount of middle fingering from the stage. even Gene Hoglan (drummer) was into te flipping off and he looked genuinely issed off in between songs. anyone, their set was awesome, music wise. I only noticed one thing. that was the vocals being wicked loud during the last song. at one point, they busted out wit a nu-metal riff tat turned into a meshuggah riff... I thought that they were joking, but it was some song that I didn't know. knew that ther 2nd or 3rd song was from city. those songs (imho) are their most creative and having the most going on during them, but then never end... and when they do, it's more like a clifhanger. |
_____________________________________ [Nov 9,2005 9:46pm - the_reverend ""] soilwork: what a funny set indeed. the bass player is hilarious to watch. he's all over the place and making dumb-faces and dances as he does it. their newer material is so terrible. I don't know why they are fucking it up! anyhow. they played 3 songs from NBC, one of chainheart, and one other old one that I couldn't place. they reast were off stabbing the drama and f#5. the old songs that they played ruled. it was funny cause whenever they played a track from NBC they were talk about how the crowd will sing along. it's true. that CD is so catchy and sing-able. the singer did the same thing as the darkane singer and took off from the stage whenever he wasn't singing. he stepped back to the guitar tech's area and would just chat. they played a song that they have a video for. honestly, I have no clue what it was, but people were singing along to it and I guess they beat up in flames in the video.. I have a different "beat" between them. who can slide into nu-metal more! they ended on a happy note, playing their stairway to heaven, follow the hollow. people definitely cheered for that song and everyone, including me, sung along. |
_______________________________________ [Nov 9,2005 9:48pm - ra @ gf's house ""] just got back a little bit ago.... Darkane: ruled, but they got a really shitty mix! SYL: same deal! Devin was hillarious as usual... "Suck a turd into a point and stab yourself!" have fun watching soilwork play a bunch of songs NOT from chainheart/steelbath suicide. |
______________________________________ [Nov 9,2005 10:58pm - the_reverend ""] I admit when the played new songs, I went on my lappy. and tom, you liked NBC last week... that CD not good anymore? |
______________________________________ [Nov 10,2005 1:17am - the_reverend ""] pictures yo. |
_____________________________________ [Nov 12,2005 1:34pm - HailTheLeaf ""] heh, the newer Soilwork does suck, except for one tune...at least they played something off "The Chainheart Machine". As for the bass player...you had to be there...funny shit. In case anyone was wondering Burton's vocals sounded like shit during FF...he had a cold. But otherwise...Big God/Raped Souls, Acres Of Skin..fuck yeah! |

______________________________________ [Nov 20,2005 4:16am - the_reverend ""] fear factory: I'm not sure why I always feel like I have to justify liking this band. they are one of the first real death metal bands that I got into. they have been around for a loooong time too and the firest few CDs were classics. plus, the new CDs are much better than.. er.. the darker days in the nu-middle nu-of nu-their nu-metal. any how, their set was good... I mean how can it not when they play basically the same songs everytime. this time, they had SYL's bass player playing for them. I did a double take to figure that out. all he did was cheange his pants into shorts. burton's voice was shot. it was like his voice was strained or something. it still sounded good, but you could tell there was something there in the way of him getting the clean parts out. I also noticed that they really heavied up the set for the bands that they were playing with. it's like soilwork seemed to lean more nu-metal than they had before (like on ozzfest) to play to the crowd, I think FF played things a lot harder so that the people that came to see SYL/darkane would be happy. This allowed burton to do more growls and lows and not show as much strain with the clean parts. he even sang some of the clean parts in a gruff-growl (or got the crowd to do it). I left during their encore. the band melted away and burton came out on to the stage with a hood on and did timeless with no lights anywhere else besides on his face and the lighters from the crowd. |
