I got here and yet another band was added to the show. they are 10 minutes ahead of the schedule, but they (meaning the house) are rushing the bands. I'm kind of glad about that cause I didn't want to stay until mega-late. reminds me of a bombshelter show. vital goes on at 12:05 til 1am. upstairs shows here have been out at 11-ish for a while. I missed the first band, the worst and waited outside for kenny to figure things out. I just saw the new singer of vital remains. I thought it was him from all the comments people were making, but it's one of carina/my favorite bouncers from lupos/met cafe. he rules so I'm happy that he's in the band. at the met cafe, he used to make fun or the crowds/bands and talk about what it was like "back in the day." |

Burn My Remains: they sounded really good. especially from the lobby which is where I listened to most of their set waiting to go in. they played great and the crowd was good for them. one of their friends sang along a lot and they had some moshing going on. just out of curiosity, which band members post here and under what names? skulltoboggan: the bass player from the last time I saw them moved to drums. and then got a new bassplayer. it was the guy from lucubro (spelling?). even they knew that they were the odd band on the bill, but they sold a bunch of tickets and the crowd seemed to like them. they are very good guys. I'm actually surprised after our one meeting at killfest that the singer remembered both my and my gf's name. they played good and were one of two bands with a smoke machine. they also had a friend come in at the end of their set and sing with them. rumpelstiltskin grinder: they absolutely ruled. I've seen them 3 times now and they've gotten better and better each time. the crowd was completely into them and they played to the audience very well. they may have almost stole the show. Seriously. I haven't heard the new CD at all, bust compared to the other times I saw them, it's almost like it was a completely different band. Anyone that didn't like them the other times they played or didn't like the CD, show have seen them last night. Afterward, I got to hear about all the band incest that went on with them from the guitar player, ryan. Mostly with devine rapture and xxx maniac. Porphyria: they were really good. the guitars we hard to discern for most of the set, same with the bass. I could see shawn doing something, but couldn't really hear it. I still think porphyria should pay for that kid's golden wrists to get them fixed. then blue could play bass (since he just spent 3 weeks pay in daddy's bucks on bass gear) and one kid could do then entire solo on frailties of humanity. anyhow, they did play awesome. blue came out and played after the first song or two. their music is very in-your-face death metal, on par with dew-scented. live, this makes the crowd move.. maybe it's the one break down or maybe it's all the football riffs. the front of the crowd was throwing horns and behind, people moshed about the floor like metal assholes. at one point, tim went down into the crowd. I'm pretty sure the guys in the front would have pulled him in to the pit if he hadn't gone in first. speaking of tim, he's trying to get the band signed so no suicidal tendencies gear this show. he was in full metalcore close; camo and jean. cannae: I can sum up the tail part of their set with this: "I got pretty good balance for a big guy" - steve a couple hours before the show. during one of the new songs, I think it was the last one they played, he stepped up on the monitor and like I've seen a million times upstairs there, he went down hard. slide right down on his belly, breaking his guitar some how so the new guy, Alex, was the only one left playing. I'm pretty sure that part of the song, they go back and forth so it was quite noticeable. still, he grabbed his other guitar out of a case and was back playing with in 30 seconds. I thought their set came off really well. the new stuff is so metal and they only play metal tracks of the last CD. though if they read this, I think they should play a track off trouble shooting death. incantation: speaking of falling. jon ALMOST went down. he and joe move around a lot and their cables spooled up on over a bunch of other cables. he stepped on them and slipped, but didn't miss the mic and kept going. you could see him laughing at himself. I was so happy to see joe on stage with them. he adds a lot to the stage presence. When they played the palladium last, that guy (I think) from the chasm was on bass. He just sort of stood there. With the real line up, they moved around a lot. I’ve never seen them doing that mic on either side of the stage for jon to play on both sides. I give that a thumbs up. Especially cause jon had 2 ½ stacks on one side of the stage, going through a stereo simulator to another stack on the other side of the stage. They mostly played new tracks and going cut a tad early. They were going to play an older song that people from the audience were yelling for. All in all, they sounded good, but I sort of prefer listening to their CDs. Vital Remains: unholy poop stick. They have easily found their best singer yet. He fit in perfectly and was able to do everything that the other singers did. He even did the Benton parts better than Glenn did. Anthony is kind of stuck in a spot with them though. This COMPLETELY reminds me of the situation that Greg was in when he joined Dillinger Escape Plan after the mike patton EP. He’s expected to cover all the other singer’s stiles so you aren’t sure how he will sound on his own. The only difference in this case is that the record label is pressuring vital to put Benton in the next CD. Face it, his name sells, Anthony’s doesn’t. I think that they would be crazy not to keep him though. I’m looking forward to a CD with his own lyrics/vocals on it. Last night was such a great show. The entire set, Tony (the 666 guitarist for those who live in a cave) wore his leather football uniform and didn’t even look like he was sweating. Dave (the other guitarist) played all the leads and Tony just did rhythm on everything (except one of the dechristianize songs he did the lead part of about 10 seconds). Tim Yeung was their drummer. As far as I knew, he is mostly a session drummer. When I was in the back, the other guys were all yelling at him for messing up. I kept thinking that they were so pissed cause he’s being paid for this show. Towards the end of their set, they did a vader cover which was absolutely sick. Anthony sounded just like peter. Crazy range. They played mostly stuff from Dechristianized and one track off forever underground. Other than that, I’m not sure. I didn’t see a set list sitting anywhere. |
