ATHEIST reform for some fests...[views:6193][posts:14]______________________________ [Jan 13,2006 3:47pm - wade ""] PRESS RELEASE January 13th, 2006 For Immediate Release ATHEIST regroup; announce exclusive festival appearances Seminal technical metal pioneers ATHEIST have regrouped for a run of exclusive live performances. Guitarist/vocalist Kelly Schaefer has reassembled what is widely considered the bands classic recording lineup (Schaefer, guitarist Rand Burkey, bassist Tony Choy, and drummer Steven Flynn) for two exclusive festival performances; Italy's Evolution Festival and Germany's Wacken Open Air. Schaefer comments, "We're very excited to be able to get back on the stage and play these insane tunes hit the air again the proper way with Flynn, Burkey and Choy. It's going to be very exciting and something not to be missed!." ATHEIST will take part on Evolution Festival (scheduled for July 16 and 17 in Brescia, Italy) and Wacken Open Air (scheduled for August 3-5 in Schleswig Holstein, Germany). These will be the first in a series of exclusive festival performances announced. Shaefer continuess, "We would like to make a great festival run this year and expose as many as possible to the music we lived and died for. Many thanks to the Evolution Festival and Wacken for helping to give many people who never got to see ATHEIST live a chance to see us one last time. This is our chance to make the music we worked so hard to create come alive one last time, and we guarantee that it will not disappoint." ATHEIST has recently had it's wildly-influential catalog (1988's 'Piece of Time', 1993's 'Elements', and the 1991's legendary 'Unquestionable Presence') reissued internationally via Relapse Records. Additionally, "Unquestionable Presence" was recently featured in Decibel magazine as part of its ongoing Hall of Fame feature. The Hall of Fame feature highlights influential and pivotal releases in metal history, and "Unquestionable Presence" will join of ranks of previously profiled classics such as SLAYER's "Reign In Blood", SEPULTURA's "Roots", and AT THE GATES' "Slaughter of the Soul", among others. ATHEIST are available for interviews upon request. To speak with the band, simply contact *** at Relapse Records via any of the means listed at the bottom of this message. _______________________________ [Jan 13,2006 8:54pm - @#$% ""] Didnt Tony Chow join a Pop band a few years back? I know it was someone from Athiest at least... |
____________________________________ [Jan 13,2006 9:33pm - anonymous ""] fuck, this band was rockin back in the "Piece of Time" era! ultra technical. got to see them twice! Once on the Unquestionable tour and then the horrible Elements tour where everyone booed them off the stage. It sucked, some asshole threw a bucket of dirt at Kelly. fuckin no respect! yes Tony Choy joined a pop band as a singer. I downloaded it for fun and fucks sake, its backstreet boys! |
_______________________________ [Jan 13,2006 9:46pm - @#$% ""] Wait, why were they booed? What was all that about? |
________________________________________ [Jan 13,2006 11:10pm - Good ol days ""] no one understood them and they toured with the wrong bands i think. Cynic was another band that got booed off stage at many of their shows. I've seen bootleg vids of Atheist where people were making fun of them yelling at them "Go home!" and stupid stuff like that. this was a 1993 show in TX i think. Cynic had the same problem because they went on tour with Cannibal Corpse and well, people hated tech metal and wanted brutal stuff. I think they had it worse. They should have paired up Cynic, Atheist, and Believer, and Pestilence or something. |
_______________________________ [Jan 14,2006 1:36am - @#$% ""] Wow, thats sad. I could see how Cynic would be hated at those shows, with all the clean synth vocals, but Atheist? Fuck... |
____________________________________ [Jan 14,2006 3:17am - Kinslayer ""] Thats some shit...Perhaps sme US dates will follow? It's all thanks to the Relapse re-releases, I'm sure... I totally forgot that Relapse re-released them and I was at Newbury Comics in Maine the other day going through their surprisingly good metal section with my girlfriend and she was like "hey! don't you have this on tape?" and I'm like "what?" but I dont look because I'm going through CD's and she goes "Atheist...Elements? I found it on CD..." and I almost shit my pants thinking it was the original...but...of course it wasn't.... What a great story eh!? Anyway...Now I need Pestilence, Sadus, Cynic and Gorguts to tour the US.... |
____________________________________ [Jan 14,2006 1:21pm - BornSoVile ""] I saw Gorguts a few years ago with Marduk, no one cared unfortunately. Atheist kills! |
____________________________________ [Jan 14,2006 2:06pm - anonymous ""] Yeah Atheist always got booed off stage. I mean just look for interviews with Kelly Schafer, he will admit that they got spit on and booed at all the time. where's the respect???? |
