In that sense, it's the same appeal as Christianity saying we were all created in a garden, rather than admitting we evolved from lower life forms. However, I assume the appeal of Scientology is that, instead of relying on an old man in the sky whose 5000 year old timeline can easily be disproven, it builds on the suggestion that in the entire history of the Earth, contact with alien life forms is quite possible, and certainly cannot be disproven. Of course it totally goes of a cliff at that point, but so do most religions... Although I respect all people's beliefs when it comes to spirituality, scientifically speaking, all religion is stupid. Every piece of evidence we have suggests that it is next to impossible for there to be a conscious "god" or an afterlife. |
