I like the ideas of over booked shows when every band has a half hour set because seriously $8.00 for for 9 bands adds up to 88 cents a band where you can go to Drifters in Nashua, NH and see 3 bands for $10.00; you get more for your money.

Yeah Tony Danza is worth the $8.00 alone so once again you'll get more for your money. Maybe I'll talk to Chris about an upcoming tenative Killwhitneydead show to see if only 4-5 bands can play because personally I want Killwhitneydead to have a fucking hour set so I can hear every single one of their songs live.

It's cool, I do see your point though because booking 9 bands on a show on a week night is pretty crazy. Do the math, 30 minutes per band, 10 minute setup/breakdowns, the shows never starting on time, your talking roughly a 7 and a half hour show so my guess is each band will probably have 20 minutes which will make it a 4-5 hour show.

Lets see; 9 bands with half hour sets each would make it last till 9:30 that's not including setup and break down which should be 15 minutes total. 7.5 minutes may be enough to set up then another 7.5 to break down so all in all my estimate is that this show could last till 11:30 but that's just a rough guess. Make each band have 20 and have Tony Danza and ION have 30 minute sets, 15 minute setup/break down for each band and this thing could end at 10:40.

What band are you in Cav? If you want to be on one of Sin City Bookings and Promotions' shows go to his myspace at http://www.myspace.com/sincitybookings I think the shows he puts on are pretty good. well, it started late, like I said. this time, they were missing a cable to hook up the mic. they needed some chord that screws into the pa. all the bands have short sets.

pillars of autumn: in the beginning of their set, the PA was fucked up. It was so over blown. they finally figured that out I think. I saw this band last time I was down here, but they were called what words fail or something like that. Decent hardcore, some more melodic guitars at the end. The singer kept calling people assholes cause there wasn't a constant mosh on. They had demos, but since they just renamed the band and the CD said the ne band, I'm going to guess it's the demo for the old band.

last chance to reason: guys from maine. Eat lobstah. with in 2 seconds of the start of their set, the PA was on the ground due to that screwed in chord. That was basically what was going down all during their set. The guitarists are all over the place. at the end of their set, one of the guitar players put down his guitar and started moshing it up, but the guitar was sorely missed in the last breakdown.

prior to burial: they seemed to set up wicked quickly. I guess this is two of the guys from this band's last show was this one (the singer and a guitar player). At this point, I started to get way more comfortable with my new camera and the lens so the pictures get a little better from them forward. this was only my second time catching these guy unfortuantely. Excellent super heavey hardcore with zao/bdm influences. I'm sure for a lot of people, this would be a sad day seeing PTB for the last time. In the end, there was a firesale and the singer just gave away tshirts. I got one too.

emure: last time I saw them, I thought they sounded a lot like the acacia strain. It's more the later songs in their set. The first ones do have a lot of breakdowns, but they sound a lot different than TAS. At some point during their set, the entire PA speaker on one side came crashing down. aot of people knew the words to some of their songs. That made more than enough singing along possible..

this was the best, most poorly run show ive ever seen...who even takes a chance of having tony danzas set cut short?!!...im sad i saw the setlist, it was like 8-10 songs, i think they did 5 or 6...totally lame! but i figured it was gonna happen. they were amazing anyways...the sound was fair, they played the most memorable songs from their cd as well as a couple new ones. word on the street is they may be getting signed to blackmarket...guy from the red chord was at this show. i also saw the old old drummer from unearth there.

nice to see ION back in action...the new singer isnt as funny as the last but his vocals are pretty good from what i could hear out of that crappy PA. kids really rocked out for them.

the boys in LCTR put in a good show...i kept laughing my ass off at AJ walkin up to kids who werent paying attention and just rockin out in their face...if you need lessons on how to use your wireless system, check out LCTR!

emmure = acacia strain

year of desolation was probably the best straight up metal band ive seen in a long time!

and i dont remember who else played, the first band was ok although their bassist was like 12.

I thought the show was awesome, the fucked up thing was some kid decided to bitch out the owner of the hall thus the reason why TDTDE was cut off half way into their set. Some people just have no respect these days and once again something goes bad at a hall show and now there may not be anymore shows at the Melrose Masonic Temple. The PA system sucked ass; I wanted to go up to the kid doing the mixing and see if I could take over but I said screw it, that's not my job. And to the kid who said "...this show was overbooked and it seems like mostly all the bands were friends..thats pretty lame." what's wrong with bands having friends? I'm friends with alot of them actually; just because you're in a band doesn't mean you have to give EVERYTHING up. Plus my boys from Emmure put us in their "Thank you's" on their new EP which was really nice of them; good guys. Year of Desolation by the way was amazing and came as a huge surprise to me on the show; they made the best of their set seeing how they were more "metal" than any of the bands there but after a while people definately came around. By the way did I mention that TDTDE was pretty much perfect; the vocalist was obviously a very loud screamer because I could actually hear him over most of the other bands. TDTDE, Emmure, Year of Desolation, were my favorites of the night.

Don't get me wrong, the old singer, rob , was awesome. I mean he was there writing the lyrics and putting them to the songs, but the new singer, lou, is problem one of my top vocalists in the local scene. Such a wide "black market activities" sounding voice. it's always awesome to see these guys. I used to see them all the time, but they are too busy on their farmers daughters tours now. I kid, they were ouut of commison for a while without a drummer.it's awesome that they are doing so well and when they are on atlantic records, I will sell the note robb sent me with their first demo on ebay.

the reason i say this is because it seems to be a weird situation when a band like tony danza probably wants a $200-300 guarantee but then they dont draw as much as expected. just wondering if promoters always get fucked paying bands out of there pocket. i just started booking shows and i want to get headliners but not if i have to pay them 100-200 bucks out of my pocket ya know.

Those kind of headliners want that kind of money to pay for all their expenses such as food, gas, etc. The problem is that if that headliner doesn't atleast draw 200-300 worth then they shouldn't get that much. But it's also up to the promoter to promote the show because you could have the biggest band in the world but if it's not promoted correctly then no one will show so it's sort of 50/50, the band has to be worth that kind of money and the promoter needs to promote it enough to make that money. Poor Chris was upset that most of the bands he couldn't pay for gas money because Tony Danza & ION asked for so much I believe. Then there were the out of state bands asking for money as well. Personally I don't think the kid profited off it at all, all the money basically had to go to headliners and renting the room. Another thing to consider is that it was a week day and week days are always hard to draw. For a week day show I thought the draw was pretty good. If this was on the weekend I'm sure it'd be packed.

Basically if a band is making $300.00 that's $10.00 a minute for a 30 minute set; divide that by 5 and each band member is making 2 dollars a minute which basically means each member is making 60 every half hour. That's not even including what they're making in merch sales. These bands could make anywhere from 300-400 for one night. That's definately good money in my book.

Sorry I enjoy doing math for some reason. If you'd like to go in depth a little more if a band tours 30 days making 300 a show and an estimated 50 dollars off merch sales a night they could pull in $10,500.00 for those 30 days; divide that by each member and each member could make $2,100.00 a month.

im sure they didnt draw as much as expected because the show was well over booked..with the exception of last chance to reason, ION, and Tony Danza every other band sounded EXACTLY the same, with the same mosh parts. a lot of the kids there were dicks too, because they only dance to their friend's bands and no one else.

You guys lost money because people walked right in without even paying.

200-300 dollars worth is exactly 20-30 kids in the door with an average door cost at 10 dollars...even so, lets say the band draws 15 kids, so youre saying that they dont deserve 200 bucks? That is NOT alot of money. The promoter took them on, he should live up to whatever the deal is.

"Sorry I enjoy doing math for some reason. "

Lets say best case scenario, that much money is made....cut half of it for gas/travel expenses....also factoring in the probably 2 oil changes you will have to get while on the road for 30 days, and the fact that because of murphys law, no touring ever goes smoothly, expect some sort of van problems or a flat tire.

if you make that much money on merch, youll probably take home a quarter of it or less, unless you, and not your label put up the 3000 it would cost to produce 100 hoodies.

on top of this, that little thing called "your label recouping what theyve spent on you." Those cds you sell didnt come out of nowhere, so expect half or more of that to go right back to the record label

So with whatever you have left, you might want to spend 2 out of 7 days a week at a hotel to be able to shower, and then the ocassional value meal at McDonalds.

In the end you take no money home and if there is 5 bucks left, it goes back in the bands kitty.

this wasnt an insulting post, its just reality...no band will ever make that money unless you are on quite a larger leve.

The comments about bands making a ton of money on tour is very amusing. obviously the person who posted it has never done a tour. bands don't make shit, unless you're Killswitch Engage. cha-ching!

SteveOTB said:Basically if a band is making $300.00 that's $10.00 a minute for a 30 minute set; divide that by 5 and each band member is making 2 dollars a minute which basically means each member is making 60 every half hour. That's not even including what they're making in merch sales. These bands could make anywhere from 300-400 for one night. That's definately good money in my book.

Yeah, these bands are just rolling in the dough bro.

$300-400 in one night, great, then gas, insurance, rent for their apartments at home, because they arent working, food, repairs for the van, equipment...

Fine I recant my statement on saying that bands touring are making "decent" money. I don't know what it's like to be on tour but I was just doing mathematics and averaging things out in best case scenarios. Sorry if I offended anyone.

sorry, didn't mean to attack you there...but I know that the majority of the time, this level of a touring band rarely does much better than break even...not offended, just got a little fiesty in giving my two cents

hey asshole, if it weren't for certain bands (pretty much EVERY NYHC band) you wouldn't have many bands that evolved from influences off of beatdown bands perfect example..... dehumanized even though they are death metal they're recognized as a beatdown band i mean in NYC all the ids and bdc kids are at their shows beating the shit outta fags like you. so if someones gonna have a fest called "beantown beatdown fest" i expect the following bands..... Everybody gets hurt, Dehumanized, Irate, Billyclub sandwich, Back Of Tha Neck, Cease 2 Exist (REUNION), Shattered Realm, Betrayed By All, In Our Blood, Six Of Fire (REUNION) and maybe a Within One Intent reunion as well . now thats a beantown beatdown fest.

whatever, you keep on lifting weights and beating up people for no reason...this is why there are no more venues for shows because of idiots like you. I bet you associate the word "tuff" with your name.
