We here at the BPL Music Department are trying to update our bulletin board. Right now all we have are BSO flyers and the like. We feel this only adds to the image of the Music Department only being interested in western classical music. So, per my request, the Curator has allowed me to start the Local Surround Sound board where anyone and everyone can post their show flyers, and since I'm in a metal band, you guys get the first skinny. This board will eventally include jazz, folk, hip-hop (yeah I said hip-hop), gamelan, hippie dancing, and whatever else Boston has to offer. But don't worry, it'll have sections, so Candy Striper Death Orgy will not be placed next to Dirty Dan and His Fag Bag O' Hippies...unless ofcourse they want to play a show together. It's really up to them. The rules are simple: 1. Bring your flyer to the Music Desk 2. We'll post it 3. These flyers will kept as part of the Music Departments local music collection Any profanity (outside of band names) will not be posted. And I know how clever everyone is with flyers, so if you have one with a lady masturbating to the death wails of a drowning cat, and the cat is spitting out the band names...you might want to make a second one for the BPL. We're going to see about letting people email flyers to be printed and posted, and also about snail mailing them. This is very much an experiment, but we hope everyone will be encouraged to stop by, post a flyer, and see what the Music Department has to offer. For all you rock geeks, we have tons of books on guitar, sound, recording, theory, and the music industry. We also have some very nice special collections like full Zappa orchestrations...complete with his notes on when and how to play the vacuum cleaner in his songs. All you need is a library card...which is FREE!! The Music Department at the BPL is located on the 3rd floor of the McKim Building (that's the old fancy building) 700 Boylston Street, Boston MA. This is most beneficial for people in or around Boston, but there are a lot of clubs and a lot of bands around here, so we hope this can become just another tool for the muisic commuity. Right now there's only a ROCKATHON IV poster up...which is nice for me since people are bound to notice it, but it looks sad. So come to the BPL and post your band. If I'm (Brendan) out at the front desk, feel free to talk to me about your band, and let me know of any suggestions you may have...other than telling me where I can stick my bulletin board. Or ask for Brendan and if I'm there and have a free moment I'll be happy to talk about your band, my band (of course), guitar, Iron Maiden, footbal, baseball...but not relationships. We have the newspaper and magazine room with Cosmo for that. Hope to see you here! Peace, Brendan Mulhern Raze To Ashes, Boston http://www.razetoashes.com http://www.myspace.com/razetoashes
