MarkFuckingRichards said:
slowlypeelingtheflesh said:
he makes a great point. Proteus plays a different style of death metal and it is a breath of fresh air from bands that sound like Immolation etc. Not they are bad, its just old and fair less technical. Now I am not saying Immolation sucks. Old Death Metal is exactly what it is, OLD. Some people jock bands that have been around for decades.
i'd say immolation have a lot of technicality, but it's a different kind of technicality than what proteus does. proteus have technicality in terms of structure, time, theme, and overall space of the music, as well as some of the riffs, as if malignancy and isis had a steamy one-night stand and birthed a large bastard lovechild. immolation have a lot of technicality within the riffs, drumbeats, and sometimes vocal patterns and lyrics. see "christ's cage christ," and you'll see what i'm talking about at least with the vocal/lyrical stuff. it's like comparing apples and oranges realistically.
Oh yeah, I agree with you. They are two different bands and two different "types" of death metal. All I am saying is that there are people who ruin the scene by listening to one "type" of death metal and will completely dismiss anything before listening to it. There are lots of these people, and that creates a scene where if you dont sound like one band you cannot get shows because of people's ignorance. A good example is Devourment, these guys have been playing slammy death metal and some people just can not get over old school DM and accept stuff like that. Oh well.
