I'm not sure I see your point though, unless your point is "It's illegal, so they are wrong for doing it". Some music venues have signs up all over the place stating the presence of surveillance, yet people smoke weed at lots of these venues all the time. What if a venue worked in conjunction with the police office to do the same thing that we see here, except with a music venue? Would you still think there was nothing wrong with it or is it just because it is an open field that you think they got what they deserved? Also, the sign makes no mention of marijuana; it only states that "trespasser's may be summoned...", yet, as we clearly see in all the pictures, they are only interested in catching the people smoking. They could have also posted pictures of just people standing in the field, and they would be able to summon them for that, but instead they decided to specifically target those smoking weed. And I'm not even gonna mention how pathetic it is that someone would turn a harmless pothead into the authorities for the petty amount of 50 dollars. You could take a shit and sell it on ebay for more than that. |

I agree that anyone who went out there knew they were taking a risk, and if a person wants to make a defiant political statement like that, there is often a price that comes with it; there's no use in whining and crying as if they didn't know it could happen. However, I don't agree with ratting out random people there, I think that is totally fucked. There could only be two motivations for doing such a thing: 1) you believe that the illegality of marijuana is completely just, and all people who smoke weed are common criminals who deserve to be thrown in jail (I strongly disagree, but at least that would a be consistent viewpoint), or 2) you're more interested in getting a few free bucks than giving a shit about the law (because law is by its nature evolving, and political statements are one of the things that can drive that evolution, so if you have nothing against the statement, there's no sense in targeting the activists); it's like being against slavery in the days before the Civil War and ratting out runaway slaves, because hey, they knew the risks they were taking. A man who chooses to climb a mountain has to accept the inherant risks and hardships, but that doesn't mean I'm going to stand at the top and piss on his forehead just because I can. |
