they played ct last night and from what i heard, they played pretty much all endnote shit and didn't do anything from the demo (their best shit) - but i'm MUCH more of a Harvest fan anyways. word on the street is that DOOMRIDERS owned the show.

bloodhorse: the only other time I saw them was at that seemless show. at that show, I ran in missing most of their set. Finally, I thought I was going to cacth a "full" set, but with them opening, it seemed so short. They probably played for 15-20 minutes, but it felt like 5. this band includes adem (ex bars/TRC). they started off pretty light and rocky. The 70's influenced sound streaming from them which by the end sunk on their blessed black wings into a world of oblivion. musically, they somewhat sounded like clutch I guess, but not in the vocals at all (i hate clutch vocals). Mostly, I heard high on fire. Very killer. Hopefully, we will see these guys on more shows with bands like ichabod, raw radar war, and maybe even grief. I know devin set up a show, but it was on a monday. these guys should be come the new doomriders.

dead city: this bands played awesome. The guitar player on stage right had a mass of pedals that he used to create jangley and looped drones at the beginning of songs. After maybe 30 seconds of that song broken in to hardcore. Very progressive. A lot of it was really slow and sludgy with a strong (non-moshable beat). This band's music is trapped some where between backstabbers ins/cursed and 25 ta life. towards the end of the set, they pulled off a cover of helmet's meantime. That was my highschool time album. Awesome. Their last song was almost epic. In structur, it reminded me of something from bsi-broken bones. No one danced at all for them.. Granted there was only one dancable track. It was and older one and probably my least favorite of their set.

40SLS: aka 40SLS, but my databases have them spelled out. they were the first band that got people moving. I knew exactly how the crowd was going to be for them and waited for the first 2 myspace songs and then the final one. When kid's know the music, they will dance and as with the cast with this band, sing along. One of the songs (the one they recorded last brockton show for a DVD) got a lot of people on their feet. I was waiting on the post in the middle for them to play it for over the crowd sing along parts. The last song had a lot heavier vocals. They were leaning more towards matt (BYD)'s vocals. Fortunately, his throat seemed to take it. wouldn't want him blowing it out or anything.

doomriders: so, if bloodhorse is going to be the new doomriders, what is doomriders to become? hm.. They rock out like almost no one in Boston can... So.. They can be the new Boston of Boston (since the original Boston is doing nothing other than selling anti-rape merch). These guys know how to end almost every song like they are in an arena and are about to walk off the stage and wait for the audience to call them back on for the encore. This is the first show I've seen from them since they played that group of tours (and Europe) and had time to sit at home for a minute (before heading out on this current tour). They played great set. Yes, including the "hits" off their recent CD, but more importantly, a song off a split with collesium (which I don't have) and a brand spanking new track. Even though all the "hardcore" kids went outside, during one of the songs, there was a little bro-pit that broke out which went into the collesium split song where a member of the pit took over the mic for most of the song. He was pretty damn good at it. Anyone who's heard the CD knows that they are in for as much rocking and trashing during their set. it also helps that even if you don't have the CD, the songs are infectious so you may come in not knowing their music, but you leave humming black thunder! Its going to take a lot of mp3s push that out of my head.

colin of arabia: the past 3 shows, all with different bass players. I think that their next bassplayer is rumored to be syd barrett (I don't even know what that means). I think they started out with a bad brains cover.. or maybe it was a song or so in. I'm pretty sure that their second song was that devon TYAG song. I never really noticed, but the song starts out sounding EXACTLY like TYAG so I'm just going to assume that that was the song. they need the samples live. COA just got back from the south so colin told us about the fac that the most racist dude up here is the least racist down there and they are so backwards that they still believe in jesus christ. COA is another band that the worst part about them is the aftertaste. I'm forever singing their songs in my head. they are as catchy as any Black Flag song.. mission accomplished Colin.

hope conspiracy, the: HopeCon is one of those bands that retreats for years back into their layer, giving not even the slightest indication that they are ever coming back out. then like one of the seasons, 2 years later, they come back out with an album that is at least a few months ahead of the curve while still keeping some semblance of their former sound. Looking back on their albums is like seeing what the style that was the “next biggest thing”. I think with the new material, they have targeted and hit right before the curve. They started off the set with a rocking out song. Rocking out or “bringing the rock” definitely confuses kids who are just there to 2-step (note: the people who were outside when doomriders played). Yes, the band played older material for those who like their punk CD, but they played plenty of stuff off the new 7” and CD (not sure about the split that is coming out in the fall). Their older songs still got “Crazy” in the crowd like you would expect, but the newer stuff left people more subdue. I’m going to have to check the 7”/CD when I get them, but from what I heard live, they continued a trend from their last CD and have parts that sound more like the last converge meets doomriders. Some of it creates a nice sense of dread which builds through out the songs. The vocals are harsher too on the CD. They were always this way live, but on Cold blue, they come out sounding a bit whiney from the studio. If you missed their live set, too bad for you. They have gone back in to hibernation and won’t be coming out all summer. This was their last show until the fall (for the split 7”).
