THE DRUMS. or rather, lack thereof. its like the drummer forgot what band he's in, and isn't even in the same book never mind the same page as the rest of the band. half the songs on this album that have no double bass whatsoever...and when he does actually, you know, use BOTH FEET, it's that slow, plooding-through-the-mud style of double bass that i thought died out with Jungle Rot. and its not like its because the drummer wants you to hear his techincal work on cymbals and toms, not at all. he sounds like he's playing for a pop punk band. whaaaaaaaaaat a dissappointment. i thought the late 80's raised the bar for death metal making technicality mandatory, especially for a band that calls themselves TECHNICAL DEATH METAL. and its not like he can't play, the drummer rips on neurotripsicks. how frustrating. its the kind of frustration parents have when their child is a supergenious but only wants to watch cartoons and smoke up all day. i would have snapped this disc in half after the first listen but the guitar work almost makes up for it. almost. i showed it to a bunch of friends, and its unianimous across the board the the drumming is so sub-par that it actually aggrivates people trying to listen to the disc. plus, the album art is retarded, if those things bother you. right now newbury comics has a used cd that isnt coming out for another week. FUCK at least the new sulaco is really really good. |

I dunno, the simple style of drumming in CC, that people always complain about, sounds awesome to me so maybe I won't mind this. |
