We have all heard that white trash is the worst kind of trash usually uttered without a droplet of irony by person who consider themselves strident antiracists. Now, smack my white ass into a melanin-starved pulp, but this sounds awfully contradictory to me. I thought the First Rule of Racial Etiquette was that no one should be permitted to insult a group to which they do not belong. Yet blacks, jews, asians, and hispanics-and, most significantly, rich whites-can say redneck or white trash with impunity. In fact, such utterances are usually considered somewhat ballsy and heroic, as if David had slung a two pound rock at Goliath s bullying forehead.

This is completely true, which is why I smack myself when I ever utter the terms 'white trash'.
I thought redneck was more of a sub-cultural insult though.

Have you read any of the shitslinging pieces Jim and Debbie wrote about each other after they broke up? In one of them Jim was writing about how happy he was that Debbie had died of cancer. It was one of the funniest things I've ever read.

I've always liked the phrase "white trash".
Its existence proves the necessity to differentiate between regular white people and the trashy ones.
You never hear "black trash" or "brown trash". No need, they're ALL trash.
"white trash" is actually the most racist expression there is against minorities.
