Had a friend who had an older cousin from PA that was into thrash metal and punk, so we got tape dub copies of everything. The 2nd (actual store-bought) tape I ever owned was Iron Maiden "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" (first was Michael Jackson "Bad"), and then it was tons of Megadeth and L.A. Guns (and Public Enemy), along with assorted US punk (all the LA shit, mainly). Another friend's older brother was into crossover, so I took a detour into Agnostic Front and S.O.D., Exploited, Nuclear Assault, so on and so forth. Got ahold of two tapes when we were 14 that were pretty influential (read corrupting) to us at the time, Anal Cunt "Morbid Florist" and Darkthrone "Soulside Journey." (Good luck trying to track down more Darkthrone when you're 14 and it's still the early nineties. Damn you kids and your interweb!) Enter high school and girls and punk bands, and then full circle back to Iron Maiden. And on and on and on and... |
