I know some folks swore by the original 5150, as opposed to the 5150 II... Which obviously features the seperate EQs for each channel.

Now, the 6505 is supposed to be the same amp.. so.. Anyone here have a preferance between the 6505 and 6505 Plus? I plugged in a 6505 Plus through a Boogie the other day and it ripped. I actually preffered it upon first listen to my Single Rectifier. Just curious if anyone has an opinion on the matter.

as far as I knew, the 6505 is like the orig 5150 and the 6505+ is like the 5150 II...

I could be mistaken though, wait for Blue to give you the correct answer

Right, thats my question 5150 or 5150 II.... now of course called the 6505 and 6505 Plus. I know Andy Sneap for example, swears by the regular 5150 over the II when recording. Again, I plugged in the 'Plus' and thought it sounded pretty damn good.

The plus has an extra FX tube.

I'm basically wondering if anyone has heard the difference to where they would prefer the the straight 6505 over the Plus.

Why do companies feel the need to fix something that isn't broken? They should've just kept making the 5150 if it's what everyone perfers. Wouldn't that seem logical?

I do believe Peavey lost/did not renew the license for the 5150/Van Halen name, which is why they now have the 6505's. The Final Battle just used a 6505+ for recording and it sounded pretty fucking sweet stacked up against a 5150. Both were going through the same Orange cab, but I also have sneaky suspicion that the 5150 needed some new tubes, as it was super muddy, yet still had some balls deep low end.

Ahh you may be right considering how the 6505's aren't endorsed by Eddie Van Halen. The thought never crossed my mind.

when eddie left so didn't the 5150 name.

the amps are almost identicle.

and produce the worst sounding harmonics available on any tube amp (except for the peavey xl,xxl, xxx line)

the original block letter 5150s are the exact same tonally to the current production 6505s. and the 6505+s are the exact same as a 5150 II.

the difference between the two is that 5150s/6505s have a little bit more low/mids and the +s/IIs have an overall brighter circuit with a little less gain.

i love em all. the best metal head out there for cheap.

The 6505 is a great amp. We chose to use this for our recent recording over a VHT Pittbull and several other more "boutique" amps we had available at the time. It just sounded better when we a/b-ed the amps.

I dont know if it was a 6505 or a 6505+. I think it was without the "+"

EXACTLY correct... I love the 5150 and the 6505 myself.

the name 1965-2005 are the years that Peavey endorsed EVH from what I heard.. Hence the "6505" name.

Blue I'm thinking about picking one of these 6505s up which one would you say would best be suited for me the regular or the plus
