i was never able to convert files to mp3 using windows media player before...but go to www.download.com and there should be at least a temporary program you can use. i just use iTunes these days to convert songs.

Yeah, iTunes is definitely your best bet. I'm not even aware that you can convert files with windows.

windows media player only does wmas.
what I would do is use CDEX: http://sourceforge.net/projects/cdexos/
