NYHC on Donahue in 1986[views:9946][posts:54]_________________________________ [Dec 3,2006 1:23pm - Dankill ""] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soNgsDy7SB0 This was a special they had on the Hew York Hardcore scene back in '86 that had a number of people from various bands appear, as well as everyday kids. Off the top of my head, they have members of Agnostic Front, Youth of Today, Cro-Mags, Crumbsuckers, Token Entry, Nuclear Assault, PMS, Another State of Mind, Carnivore and Bold in the audience. At least from who I could see and other people who are older then me from NYC that knew them back then. Pretty cool lil peice of history Now I gotta dig up: Fear on SNL GWAR and the Mentors on Springer Anti punk episode of Dr. Qunicy Anti punk/hardcore PSA's of parents whining about their kids dressing funny and going to shows where they get "hurt" Any other ideas? |

The episode was titled something like "Shock Rock". |
_______________________________________ [Dec 4,2006 3:03pm - XmikeX @ work ""] a couple observations about this video: 1. Did I just hear a girl stand up, and form a complete sentence that was relevant, made sense, and didn't embarass a music scene? Times really HAVE changed. 2. I can't watch this without thinking about Phil Hartman's impressions of Phil Donahue from SNL. Priceless. 3. Say what you will about this but it looks like Donahue definently gave these kids a much fairer chance than Oprah gave Jello Biafra. |
_______________________________________ [Dec 4,2006 3:19pm - XmikeX @ work ""] wait.... I watched the rest of it. A healthy handful of those girls had absolutely dumb things to say, the natural order of things takes control once again. But seriously... think of that one girl in your scene that everyone hates (take your pick)... imagine if she was on The View speaking up for you? I'd implode. |

_____________________________ [Dec 4,2006 6:24pm - Lamp ""] AUTOPSY_666 said:Little did they all know that good hardcore wouldn't exist after the 80's. Are you serious? There are so many bands still playing the old school styles today. Cut The Shit, Gordon Solie Motherfuckers, Direct Control, Limp Wrist, Fourteen or Fight, Think I Care, Vitamin X, R.A.M.B.O., Skitkids, blah blah the list goes on. And yes, powerviolence is hardcore in my book, it's an evolution of the days of old. I think a lot of the stuff around today is actually better than what was around in the 80s since the bands have stepped up the speed and written more interesting riffs. To say hardcore died in the 80s is ignorant elitism. Also, both those videos were awesome. |

____________________________________ [Dec 5,2006 9:26am - Josh_Martin ""] I have a tape of the entire FEAR set on SNL. It fucking rules. It was the Halloween 1981 show, hosted by Donald Pleasance who was promoting Halloween II which had just come out. FEAR and all the punks in the crowd totally destroyed the place. One of the greatest performances ever. FEAR just kept playing too, they didn't stop until the producer cut the power. John Belushi was responsible for getting them booked on the show. Belushi was a huge punk, and especially FEAR fan. He was slated to host a future episode and said he wouldn't do it unless they booked FEAR. I think he ended up dying before the show he was supposed to host happened though. If he had lived I bet we would've seen a lot more awesome bands on SNL. |
