The best thing about this band was the drumming. The double bass was awesome (should have been turned up a touch) and even though this was more of a death metal band, he and the guitarist play back and forth during some of the songs, doing some of the more epic blasts in Immortal. That was cool and in one song they kept speeding up and slowing down like they were changing gears, downshifting to morbid angel and then upshifting to old immortal and then really downshifting (bogging the engine in my analogy) to "newer" imortal every few seconds. One problem was with the morbid angel (chapel of ghouls era) solos that the guitarist did was they only had one guitar player so that there was sort of a hole behind his solos. They need a second guitarist. Some of the solos didn't need it, but the one during the first song really did. After I typed all that, they said that they were playing the immortal show. Ha! |

The crowd packed in up front. Just about all of them in some sort of NY/DM gear. There was actually a little bit of moshing too. Wow, there was some slamming going on, old school. I think they only played 2 old songs. That was weird. All the others were new ones that they are putting out on the moribund release. the new tracks have a lot better bass parts in them to showcase their new bassist. |

I counted 7. Every angle was more than covered. it's worse than a wedding! I tired to stay out of their way, but who knows. Also, did they get a new drummer? That kid was mad young. Sounded good though. They also played a cover of a local doom band, but played it much faster. The singer wasn't as crazy as he usually is. He stood still with the mic in stand a lot. When they started, the crowd wasn't too packed, but as they played on, the crowd filled in more and more. Oh and the guitarist stage right played guitar with a giant knife for part of a song. This place isn't as full as I thought it was going to be. What happened to all carinove fans? Did they get old and move away? |

He was walking around perfectly with out his cane. (or maybe he was that special kind of drunk that makes you do things better). Awesome to see. People kept coming up to him and shaking his hand and I mean like large numbers of people. The ultimate hobby rocker, Josh Martin was wrecked earlier, but he must be a math-a-magician at calculating sobering up. By the time they set up, he was that special sort of wasted. The drummer took out 90% of the drum set that had been up there for every other band and played with only a couple pieces. They played 2 vaginal jesus songs. Yes, with the deep vocals. Their set sounded really good. Josh sound loud even though he was just using his own (looks newer) pevey. I'm always happy when Josh is playing out of other people cabs, but that didn't happen today. (there was a killer mesa his cab was on top of). Their last 30 seconds featured the original guitar played, mike macsomething , from their 88-song fudgeworthy release. if you have that 7", you know that 30 seconds rougly translates into 3-5 songs. the best part is when you are watching people in the audience who have no clue what the songs that they are "rocking out" to are about. case in point, girls pumping their fists to "women, nature's punching bag." |

The large commando presence for the AC set ran out to feed the sin in their lungs and viens once again. Looking on the stage, I'm a fucking moron. I was thinking MOUTH OF THE ARCHICT. Now that I look on stage, I remember seeing these guys (middle east?). I am an idiot. Their music matches a lot better and makes sense why they are playing. People got more and more into them as their set went on. These dudes actually flew out here to play this show. They claime from hades. when someone from the side of the stage told them they were done (meaning no last song) the singer answered "we flew all the way from hades for this show. You know how far that is?" people from the audience chanted and they got one last song. it was a long song too. I swear 1/3 of the people in attendance also frequent o'briens. But now folks, it's time for carnivore. Er.. That is after they set up and all. |

| ______________________________________ [Jan 23,2007 8:42pm - the_reverend ""] like I've said to a millon people "i wish josh would stop doing drugs long enough to buy gear to match his playing" carnivore: watching people on the stage trying to get the carnivore set up on stage was like watching 10 guys trying to put the pieces of 10 rubix cubes back together while riding on horses running though the desert. It looked like at some point it might look like something.. Just not any time soon. I had been hoping that the carnivore banner behind everything had been covering a huge drumset, but it wasn't. they set a drumset up right where all the other drums had been. They also had strobes on every guitar cab, spotlights on the bass cabs, and floods to either side of the stage. I heard the stage dude taking about tons of blood being shot at the crowd so I took up residence behind a PA. The set rocked. They didn't play a single song that I didn't want to hear. There were technical difficulties with the iPod samples and one of the guitar heads, but that was minor.. Ok, the guitar head thing was a little najor. The roadies tosed morons off the stage. They just continuted to play through songs that I love. It was awesome to see them, the spectacle, and all the drunken people thrashing til death! For some reason, my phone battery was completely dying and I had to pick carina up so I missed their last hoo-haa, but as carina and I met up, shattered liz called her to say that she got hit with meat! granted it's not the first time the people in this crowd have been assaulted by meat products (and I'm sure not the last), but I wish I could have shot the bloody mayhem. As we drove back by, people were running in the streets with bloody blowup dolls. |
