RichHorror said:
No, there are a ton of metal/hardcore/punk rock shows that have good support there. They're just in the way underground thanks to Great White. Also, you mostly go to shows your husband's band is playing or some big national tour. Providence has less easy venues, therefor they stick together more and work more so that the shows can take place. People in Boston cry because a beer is a dollar more than they want to spend.
The Direct Control/Strung Up show that happened back in September was fucking PACKED. Probably because Dropdead was on the bill but still. If there is one problem I have with the types of bands/people in Providence is that there isn't really anybody into powerviolence which is my favorite of the punk subgenres. I've got nothing against seeing crusty bands, flat out hardcore bands, whatever metal bands we have, they're all a fun time, but there's few bands that really pack that punch for me here. The closest I could think of that we have around would be Third Death and Suffering Bastard. Come to a Dropdead show sometime in Providence, you'll see the room filled to the brim. As far as which is better? I don't even care too much, really. Just gotta represent mah l0cal $cene, y'allz.
