Toss me some reccomendations for novels to read. I fell out of synch with my reading habits when I was studying for the GREs, and I tried to get back into it by reading the Silmarillion (definently....definently not the right time for that book). Can anyone reccomend anything good?

first one who says Perks of Being a Wallflower gets stoned to death.

snow crash is sort of dated now, but it's one of the books that started a lot of the cyberpunk revolution. he came up with a lot of internet terms that we use now (like avatar) and popularized them. the book is a quick read and it's about a drug/religion/computer virus/human virus/etc... in a world where pizza delivery men are held to the 30 minute rule by death and the world is divided up into chain-corporation city states

house of leaves is one of my all time favorites. I was really really upset with the way Danielewski put together Only Revolutions though. I haven't even read it yet.

have you read "Messiah" by Gore Vidal? It's nothing mindblowing, but it was a good read.

Also, I just read House of Leaves and I loved it. I have Only Revolutions but can't get motivated to read it because it looks so mindless.

I'll try to think of some more gooduns.

And if you haven't read STIFF by Mary Roach, I'd give that a shot. It's about cadavers and the body farm what not.

And also, there is a book called Death's Acre, which is also about the body farm (William Bass and Jon Jefferson)

Both interesting reads if you're into deathsciences.

hey Josh, how was this? I'm reading the description and it sounds out of control. Some of it sounds kind of out there. Is it all bat shit nonsense conspiracy theory or is it worth the read?

that's another one that's been on my list for a while. I toyed with the idea of buying it a couple of times. Doesn't that book do some wierd things with punctuation and whatnot?

yeah with the dialog he doesn't really punctuate at all as far as quotations and such... he is an excellent writer tho.. very eloquent and will definitely challenge vocabulary... really good read.

I'm currently reading Geek Love which is about a family of carnival freaks. It's pretty good, but I've heard so much amazing stuff about it that hyped it up a bit too much, which left me a bit dissapointed. Worth checking out, though.

Stiff by Mary Roach I reccomend to everyone. It's about what happens to our bodies after we die, not just decomposition but other things as well. Plus it touches on body snatchers, beating heart cadavers, the battle over which organ contains the soul, and various historic tidbits about dead bodies. Shes a great writer, I can't say enough about how I adore this book.
