I saw it last night
Honestly it was a LITTLE disappointing somehow, it felt like all of the best lines were robbed of their punch because of the trailer, and the movie's tempo didn't live up. That seems like a petty complaint, oh well. It's a gorgeous movie for sure. Some of the dialogue is really, really really HORRIBLE--maybe it's since half the lines don't work that I was upset that I'd already heard most of the ones that do. The action sequences are like nothing I've ever seen, though.

The movie's politics are also a little strange in the modern era, it's very pro-war and often comes off like a 2 hour promo for the armed services...but if you want to apply it as a metaphor for the Iraq war, it becomes a little fuzzy which side the US has more in common with...

maybe its a good thing i haven't watched any of the trailers then?

i'm gonna go tonight late

Definitely a good thing
I don't like complaining that the trailer ruined the movie because I can't say it's the movies fault, I mean I'm glad they made an awesome trailer and are going to make millions as a result. I just never got the same thrill watching the movie that I got the first time I saw the trailer.

i saw the "Documentary of the 300" on the History Channel last night ... and it was phenominal. psyched to see how the movie compares to what actually happened. the movie will either make more sense now or completely piss me off for defiling historical facts... we shall see.

nothing against you personally, but I hate when people make every movie that comes out into a "which ones bush?"

there were all these new york reporters fighting over which was bush, xerxes or loanidas. and the director said "I had no intention on making this into a political parallel"

Who gives a fuck what the director says?
The director has said the movie does not reflect his opinions at all, he was only trying to adapt Frank Miller's vision. He's given evasive, noncommital replies to any questions about how he personally feels.
Frank Miller DEFINITELY had polital parallels in mind when he wrote the original material, and are you really going to tell me that you don't think the new scenes written, like a scene where the queen actually SAYS "Freedom isn't free." wasn't supposed to resonate because of modern american politcs?

Look, if you just want to watch it to see some dudes get chopped up go for it, but it IS political material and the Bush/Xerxes Mujaheeden/Spartans comparison is pretty amusing. It's easy for me to imagine a young terrorist watching this movie and feeling very proud and justified in his choices.
Well, at least more so than I can imagine an American soldier feeling that way.

yeah it is very easy to interpret any movie like that, but didnt the comic come out before the war, im not sure, maybe im wrong.

kinda like if you look at lord of the rings it is almost exactly like ww2

Yes, but to my understanding most of the scenes in the movie which follow the queen back in Sparta are not in the comic, they were written just for the movie. I think looking at LotR that way is interesting too, it doesn't make Tolkien a racist or anything stupid like that, but there's no such as pure fantasy...it's all grounded in something that has to do with the real world

It's much more overt in this movie than LotR, though. You can easily read those books or watch the movies without ever thinking about real world politics. I really don't think anyone could watch 300 and do the same...I dunno if you've seen it yet, if you havent I think you'll agree when you do

not quite what I was hoping for, but damn good. I was definitely entertained, but I agree about the somewhat weak dialouge.
Some of the speeches were decently inspiring at best, but all in all, pretty much wowz0rz!!

good movie but the spartans outfits did seem a bit gay, but I suppose 2000 years ago clothes were not that far off from what the movie presented.

i was gonna go see this tonight. there were a thousand or so people in line for it. i saw black snake moan instead. i don't even remember a fucking thing about the movie. i just thought about intense battle scenes the entire time and seriously thought about sneaking out and hiding somewhere in one of the couple dozen theaters playing 300.

...also, iread some article in one of those stupid magazines about this movie about how terrible it is that the movie didnt use any real sets or any location shooting and the whole thing was done in front of a blue screen. as if movies havn't been done that way for years. no body knows what's real any more and basically no one cares. if it looks cool then who gives a fuck.

yeah what the fuck was up with that goat, was it a man with a goat mask or really some goat beast?

all in all 7 out of ten, amazing filming, ok fight scenes, amazing costumes, medicore dialogue, pretty cool music.

and as to the blue screen, as long as you can believe it, which I did, it is cool. Not once did I think I was seeing fake back drops or landscape.

kinda cool how they stuck that little thing in about how they discarded deformed babies, and how it was because of a deformed child that grew up that the it betrayed the greeks.

fucking deformies.

I was expecting a lot more, moral of the story is, don't watch trailers they do too good of a job pumping you up for a movie.

The only time in the movie, that I could argue with this, is when they do a close up of the wolfs mouth. Other than that, flawless.

I thought this flick stunk. 30 seconds of cool monsters, and 2 hours of shitty slow motion combat and awful CGI bloodsplatter. weed helped, though.

A cultural advisor to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad described the film as "American psychological warfare against Iran."

im sorry but thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard... fucking movie was about small numbers standing up for themselves. its based on a book... if there was supposed to be political shit they failed miserably why don't they pick on movies about 911 instead or stuff like that.

I've watched 2 out-in-the-theatre movies donwloaded from the internet and I'll never do it again. The sound & video quality is ridiculously shitty, the people who rip it usually fuck it up and the audio starts to drift out of sync from the video, and on top of that, you can't tell the black guys sitting in front of the camera man to shut the fuck up.

I won't even download DVDrips of movies online. I need all the video quality I can get. And more importantly... audio quality, which is often neglectated in the movie-pirating business.
