Their eclectic, outsider folk has drawn comparisons to Comus, Current 93 and The Raincoats. The ladies are back with their third full-length and gearing up for twin US and European tours to support it. Trading off instruments, vocals, and song-writing, this album is a dizzying incantation rich in texture and utterly transfixing. LOCAL CD SPIRES THAT IN SUNSET RISE This Is Fire Secret Eye 9.99 new 4 woman free folk from Chicago [IMG]http://www.aquariusrecords.org/images/usaiciticd.jpg[/IMG] Citizens of the Chronic constitutes a compact disc edition of two previous vinyl releases by the band: 2002's Masonic Chronic 45rpm 12" ep and 2001's Citizens of the Universe LP. The disc is packed with tightly wound, yet rubbery math-rock outbursts, again in a politicized punk-hippy vein (not in the 'grebo' sense though!). With vocals varying from chanted poetry to punk shouting to absurdist falsetto 'singing', it's the instrumental 'grooves' that will get you though, full of maddening repetitions, noisy chaos, tight changes, and manic energy. Yet some unexpectedly melodic, almost folky moments crop up betwixt their twangy hardcore assaults. With their sincere, skronk-folk songwriting, Usaisamonster are somehow the hybridization of Lightning Bolt, Suicidal Tendencies, Amps For Christ, and NoMeansNo. Maybe. Anyway, they're pretty great at whatever you want to call what they do. They are these 2 tiny little CDs with 1 song per (mind you, the songs are like 20 minutes long). The art is good, the music is good. If you like large helpings of doom and gloom with your metal...go snag copies at Armageddon." We have to agree. This is how DIY small run CD's should be done. Care and quality put into the packaging and presentation. To me this is top quality and DIY as fuck. Don't know how to package your cd-r's? Here's a good example, along with the black Pus CD-r's. Musically these are all well done 1 man doom metal. Again, well done. Highly recommended. The duo of Black Cobra are a cacophony of dissonant guitar riffs, feedback, sludge and various mysterious noises. But they manage to pull it all together into something musical. It's very diverse, ranging from sparse acoustic sounding passages to loud, distorted metal riffs. Ex-members of 16 and Cavity team up to drop their 2 man bass and drum version of heavy as shit sludge riff metal. The vocals are abrasive and unintelligible, used more as a another sound source than an upfront distraction. The playing is tense, and they keep most of the tracks between 2 and 3 minutes, with only 1song clocking in at just over 6 minutes. this record is in the top 10 of last year for all of us at Armageddon. If you liked the first Big Business LP, this will be right up your alley musically. We recommend this 100%. Vinyl version comes on beautiful color wax. Top notch. Intense and passionate, a mix of peace punk roots with crusty punk harshness, emotions, hooks and strong female/male vocals. You can compare it to Lost World and Post Regiment. PUNK/HARDCORE LP BALLAST Fuse Trujaca Fala / Stonehenge 12.99 new [IMG]http://www.gravemistakerecords.com/catalog/images/guiltlust_lp1.jpg[/IMG] Imagine a combination of Fucked Up’s muscular punk with driving 80s-era DC emo-core as the main melodic element. That’s what you have from this Western Mass. band. The vocalist DJ Podolski was with the raging hardcore band Last In Line (he’s also with the Irritators now) and this is something slightly different. The vocals still sound angry, although DJ actually sings on occasion and, at its heart, Guilt Lust are a hardcore band. And already a pretty damned good one, at that.(Al Quint/Suburban voice) We from Armageddon want to add, there's a Leatherface, and early Jawbreaker vibe floating around in the mix as well.
