are you saying that because he's black, he couldn't do a better drum solo than a white man? that's racist, aaron. for shame.

I watched about half of it, not especially impressive unless you were unaware that stevie was an awesome drummer. None of his signature hi-hat grooves or dynamics really show up in this drum solo.

Stevie Wonder was a damned good drummer. I've got a recording on cassette tape of Jimi Hendrix doing an impromptu blues/rock jam with Stevie Wonder on drums. I guess they were both recording next door to each other at the same studios, and a little talk led to the session: Luckily someone was smart enough to hit record in the control room. Stevie had an amazing groove, halfway between swing and funk. His hi-hat work impressed me the most, but just the fact that he can play as well (if not better) than Mitch Mitchell did behind Hendrix is pretty amazing from a blind guy.

i feel like my head is going to explode.

What, did you think no-one ever did that before John Bonham? Back in the days of the 3 or 4 piece kits these drummers were using, that technique was pretty much standard.

It's not an uncommon mistake. Common sense would lead one to assume he COULDN'T play the drums, since he's blind.

Fact is, Stevie played a lot of instruments, and did drum tracks on a fair share of his studio recordings. Theres a lot of songs you'll hear that are actually all stevie, playing all the parts and singing all the harmonies.

If I were Stevie Wonder, I REALLY would have considered wearing earplugs.

Actually, I knew that. And I'm not a Bonham fan, so I really didn't know he used that technique.

But the fact that Stevie not only played so many instruments, and knew the many facets to get the most out of what he was playing and doing, does make me worry for my head.

It actually makes me happy. I've started getting arthritis, and know that deafness and arthritis run pretty rampant throughout my family tree. However, I see something like that video and I realize that if you have the desire, you can find ways around any handicap.
