tasmanian devils future uncertain[views:1872][posts:9]______________________________ [Apr 11,2007 1:28pm - Yeti ""] http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/asiapcf/04/10/tasmanian.devils.ap/index.html this really fucking bothers me. i am all for the work done to protect animals from man-made issues, but here is an example where we go too far. for all we know, nature selected them for natural extinction, but we have to play the bleeding heart and step in. if disease is meant to kill them off, then as much as it will suck to be rid of a species, its natural selection. so then they throw them into a new ecosystem to thwart nature, and cause more problems by introducing a new species into a new environment. extinction is something this world has always faced, we cant start diverting it to look as if we are heroes. |

There's no way for you to know that for certain. And I disagree. I think saving species from extinction is a pretty important thing. You can't say a species was 'meant' to die from something, that's implying that there is some plan or schedual by which everything has to die. Besides, at the rate fashion is evolving, who knows what kind of pelts we will need in the future. Saving the animals of today will surely ensure a future for jackets tomorrow. |

I think that if a species is becoming extinct because humans are destroying the land they live on or hunting them down and killing them off, then I think that trying to save them would be a noble and worthy cause. But if a species is going away because of a spreading disease, why do people feel the need to interfere? I don't think its because they really care about the animals, I think its because they want to feel empowered because they're attemping to control nature. I think it would be interesting if dinosaurs still existed, when they started going extinct, I can only imagine the extreme legnths humans would go to to save them. I picture a huge Brontosaurus strapped on the bed of a massive truck; enourmous cranes picking up dinosaurs to take them away to be saved. |

Scientists don't even completely abolish diseases. Even things like small pox are still kept in a dormant state because no one knows what they could be used for. If pigs were extinct, for example, diabetics wouldn't have had insulin, and we know what that means. |
