I am not exactly sure how they can make one op amp sound like another and what not. There is also not a ton of difference in the op amps to justify making a mod to make it seem like you are changing op amps. Biggest sound difference I have found with these pedals is messing with the gain stages. Different resistors, and diodes, combo's of them, asymetrical clipping etc etc is where most of the big modders get thier signature sound. there are a few caps in the circuit that give a great sound too. What they are doing with the pedal is pretty cool, and keeping it looking like a ts808 is really cool, but as you can see drives the price up like crazy. I bet that they are buying legit ts808's, making custom cases, and doing some crazy mods to them. Now that I think about it more there is a chance they made some sort of selectable caddy that holds all 3 op amps and jsut switches between them. If thats the case thats really neat. I'd like to see inside of them. I realize right off the bat they talk about clone boards and cheap knock offs. I personally use clone boards. It's the most inexpensive way to bring the best quality forward that I possibly can. I've made some boards here at my house and while they worked it's not as good of quality as boards that I can buy elsewhere. Why would I sell something of less quality when I have open access to other stuff? All little things to consider. I don't knock anything unless it is flat out poor poor quality. These guys have a good rep so to answer this thread... Thumbs up. |

If so I am not sure how that will work since you will need a switch to activate the relay anyways. I can also build you rat clones too. If you want a rat based pedal let me know. I am trying to find cheap powdercoating right now. I want the pedals to actually look decent. Seems to be the hardest mission for me. I will probably be using a more square case from now on too instead of the rectangle MXR looking case. That should give me a little more room to mess around. |

I just bought one of his ABY boxes and it's incredible...all gold connectors and audio relays. He made the good point of saying that a lot of switches are not made for switching hi-fi audio, but there are relays that are. You need to run them off of a power plug, though, since relays fucking soak up power |

One thing you need to take into consideration is there is really no hifi sound going into the front end of your amp. It's all mono signal. Shits boarderline turn of the century (20th century that is, not the 21st we are in now haha) record player technology as far as the signal it's self is concernd. I am not sure I see the added benifit. So long as you are making solid connections, and getting the signal to the amp as fast as possible I don't see how any hifi relays will make a notable difference. Especially if they are just going to old board that run regular capacitors and resistors. It's probably a good idea but won't catch on until guitars make the jump to midi and true hifi signal is actually going through. Thats not going to happen for a LONG time though thats for sure. |
