I've been extremely frustrated all day trying to find an antispyware program that doesn't make me have a register key thing after it scans.

Are there programs that you know of or use that are completely free and take care of spyware?

ad-aware works somewhat.

No anti malware program removes every threat. even the best will only eliminate 70 percent of infections, so a multi-prong approach is best.

If you want to rid yourself of spyware, delete the system32 folder. it works wonders.

exactly, CTB should have just deleted it when he got the computer.

Your computer will probably try and tell you not to, but that's just the virus trying to stay.

Spybot will be the best free stuff you can get IMHO, but it's free for a reason.

I have PestPatrol (corporate version) here, and it works pretty well, also, having Windows Defender running as a service isn't a bad idea either

I still like Webroot Spysweeper the best, but it costs $30.

Spybot and Adaware together do OK, IMHO.

I use a 10-prog approach to cleaning my system. I run a prog called cleanup, then adaware, then spybot, then ewido, avg, panda, activescan, ms antispy, zone alarmtest , and then spyware blaster.

If you follow the instructions at geekstogo, you'll eliminate your computer of pretty much every threat.

LOL. Yeah, and don't forget to delete the windows registry as well. Then you'll have your PC running lightning speed.

Reimaging is the best way to get rid of spyware.

I have Windows Defender, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, and AVG.

But I still get this pop-up saying my system detects spyware programs. I spent hours and hours yesterday scanning my computer and getting rid of what I could. Then I tried downloading a number of antispyware programs (Antiworm 2008, SpyCrush, etc. ) that would scan for free but I had to register it for it to delete anything. I was/still am not happy.

Yes, you can always re-image your machine, but you will run into spyware anywhere on the internet. It'll just speed up the process to need to reimage it again if you don't keep more spyware from getting on the machine in the first place.
