well in a way i think thrash did "go away". when you think of all the bands that formed back in 1986-1992. that whole time period of thrash metal was really incredible. from the production to the actual writing of the songs. its one of a kind. i mean i see what ur saying but that true thrash did go away. now its a perversion of Killswitch Is Gay. I really feel this type of band (metalcore) is a perversion of metal. They are nothing more than business tools, industry products. You mine as well say Green Day = Killswitch Engage. Same principles. Although these new 'retro' thrash bands do not bring anything new its just the "thought" of it that counts.
LOL. All bands are business tools from the low independent labels to the major market pushers. Do you honestly think thrash metal is any different from metalcore or even ponk (pop-punk) music? Metal Blade are signing bands like Fueled By Fire and Warbringer because they make Brian Slagel a fat rich bastard, not because they're "metal". There are agents out there who scout different scenes every three or four years to find the next big trend. That's all 'thrash is back' is. It's a cultural trend that is going to make record companies and the fashion industry money just like every other style has for decades. In two years you will hear all of these "true/non-corporate" bands on ten o clock radio and everyone will be listening to old Megadeth albums and people will say just as they did twenty years ago "Man. Remember the glory days back in '03 when thrash was underground and pure?" Mark my words.
