Has anybody checked this out? From a series of 7"s, all "hardcore" (sort of) bands covering Sabbath songs. Hit and miss, but so far everything I've heard has been aces. Eyehategod can hardly go wrong doing Sabbath, the Converge Snowblind cover is something I've heard about but never actually heard (not bad), and A.C. doing "Sabracadabra" is fucking hysterical (you'll see).

I don't know if this link works (blocked from work), but give it a try:

Eew - don't think much of Today is the Day's "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath." If you can't hit the notes singing it clean, just growl - there are no "A's" for effort here.

Brutal Truth sound like Brutal Truth on "Cornucopia" - it's ok. Coalesce did a damn fine job at "Supernaut," I thought, and some band called Cavity killed (in a good way) "Into the Void" - probably my favorite, and without a doubt the heaviest, song ever. Cable put an interesting spin on Planet Caravan, without straying from the original too much. Jesuit doing "Hole in the Sky" was pure noise, but not bad for that.

Overcast doing "A National Acrobat" is good and bad - the band sounds awesome, and while the recording is less than stellar, this actually makes them sound more Sabbath-y, but I'm not sure how I feel about the vocals. I really really really love(d) Brian Fair's vocals with Overcast, but not so much with anything else - and I think this may qualify as "anything else." Worth a listen, all the same.

(Oh, and Mess - let me know if that link works; otherwise I'll find another one.)

Wow - Cave In did some interesting stuff with N.I.B. - the first verse as a weird, dreamy noise thing, and then straight from there on. Best of both worlds, I guess; I liked it. Botch went the other way around; they did most of The Wizard straight up (if a bit more dissonant and random than the original), then finished it up pretty much like Botch (which, if you're not familiar with them, I can't really explain, but it's definitely different). Two more tracks to go.

Heh - Neurosis is definitely Neurosis on "Children of the Grave," well done. The set finishes off with another NOLA Sabbath medley from Soilent Green: "Lord of the Southern Priest." This kills, but I probably didn't have to tell you that.

Seriously, I'd buy this set if I saw it somewhere, vinyl or CD. Good shit.
