This really pisses me off (band content)[views:2315][posts:17]__________________________________ [Aug 26,2007 2:11pm - niccolai ""] So I'm logged into the body farmma myspace just following links on myspace requesting people and bands and such, and then i come across Between the burried and me's myspace. I'm not really a big fan of them, but I love glass casket, so whatever, i request them. then I get some BS page 'sorry, this user does not accept requests from bands'. What the fuck. A band that doesn't accept requests from bands? Bands that are fans of your members no less. This really fucking pisses me off that they think they are too good to bother with anyband not signed to a major label. Don't they remember what it was like being a band before success and how crucial networking and promoting is? And I know it's not a big deal, it's only BTBAM, but this isn't the first band I've seen do this. I see it more and more lately. I hope record sales are good up there on their pedestal, because I'm not buying merch or albums from bands that pull this better-then-you money machine shit. |

_____________________________________________ [Aug 26,2007 2:22pm - MarkFuckingRichards ""] That is pretty fucking dumb. I can see why someone would do that based on the fact that there are a million fake bands or 1 man music projects that are usually just half-assed drum machine programming with noisy guitars and processed vocals...but seriously, how hard is it to take 10-20 seconds to check each profile to see if it's legit, and hit approve or deny? Oh well, good for them for not networking. Smartest idea ever. |
__________________________________ [Aug 26,2007 2:28pm - niccolai ""] It's fair if a person blocks band requests, because like you said mark, it gets annoying having a million requests from fake bands.. But bands as big as BTBAM don't have any ties to the people on their friends list, they probably don't even check it, and they definately don't comment or network with them... so why the fuck not just accept everyone? It's a direct slap in the face to every band that is influenced by them that has ever gone to one of their shows or bought any merch or CDs. They are biting the hand that feeds them. |

__________________________________ [Aug 26,2007 5:56pm - niccolai ""] I s'pose. It's not just them doing it though. More and more metalbands are doing it lately. |
_____________________________________ [Aug 26,2007 11:48pm - NoodleFace ""] What I hate worse is going to a band's myspace and seeing their comments filled up with bands advertising constantly.. I think this eliminates that, and shouldn't offend you. |

_________________________________ [Aug 27,2007 1:42am - ZenErik ""] Uhm. I blocked requests from bands on both my bands' pages. I'm sick of 50 requests from bands every day and 100 spam messages and comments. |
_________________________________ [Aug 27,2007 2:11am - phillip ""] myspace is serious business |
______________________________________________ [Aug 27,2007 2:34am - ArrowHead likes Pie ""] NoodleFace and ZenErik nailed it. Most bands on myspace are just out to promote themselves. By not accepting bands, you're eliminating all the dumbass self promotion all over your comments page, and visitors can actually see some discussion about YOUR band on YOUR myspace page. If you want to make friends with bands, to get news about shows, etc.. then use a personal account, not a band one. And vice versa, if people want to be friends/fans of your band, they can use their own personal accounts. It's gotten too annoying, seeing all these bands trying to associate themselves with other bands, and the only interaction is spammed advertisements all over the comment pages. "Hey, thanks for the invite. We love your band. CHECK OUT BLAH BLAH<<<< THE NEW ALBUMZ FROM THE CHICKENFUCKERS BLAH BLAH [TOTALLY HUGE BANNER] BLAH BLAH RECORDS BLAH BLAH SIGNATURE" |

________________________________ [Aug 27,2007 8:36am - xmikex ""] I don't mind the band friend requests. Every once in a while it'll be a band with kids that I know, or a band with ex-members of something that I didn't know about yet, or every once in a long long LONG while I might actually hear something that I like (pretty unlikely but it's happened once or twice). What I can't stand is the intro letter. It's one thing to clog up my requests, but taking up space in my inbox is a whole other annoyance. "Hey what's up maaaan. This is Bobby, the lead guitarist from the Montana metal act TrAvErsE. I thought you might like our band, and..." So you wrote me a fucking letter? Where on my profile did it say I wanted to hear some nu metal band from the other side of the planet? One time some doofus band wrote an email to my girlfriend. Something along the lines of "Hey hot stuff. I'm Tony the lead vocalist from CoLdMiNd (or insert whatever corny 1 word nu metal band name). We're on tour in Boston (they were from like Rhode Island or something).... come check out our band.... come hang out.... don't stop the rockin.... support the scene....." She let me write back to the guy and I said something along the lines of "Wow I can't believe it's really some nu metal dildo who took the time to write to ME. If I flash the band can I have your voucher for half off on a plate of cheese fries you fucking cheese metal guido" |
