| _____________________________________ [Sep 11,2007 6:45pm - HeavensJail ""] I was just down in Austin week before last; it's a neat city, but too damn hot for my tastes. Sixth Street is the famous entertainment district, but I dunno what I did with my copy of the Chronicle (Austin Chronicle, ~= Village Voice), so I can't point out what bars/clubs/restaurants are interesting and which are just full of UT students looking to get wasted. If your hotel's south of the city, it's probably easy to stop in at the Whip In; it's on the service road on the side of I-35 south around like exit 230. It's got not only all the local free papers for finding out what's going on, but also lots of not-typical-Texas food and allegedly the best beer selection in Austin. I was working all week, so I don't have much else; Poke-E-Joe's is good for carnivores, and there are a lot of good Vietnamese restaurants stuck in weird places. Have fun and definitely check out the bats if you can. |
