Lot of talent... but not a whole lot of appeal.

I gotta disagree man....Flamenco is the sound of a whole country not to mention an entire race. It appeals to many....me included.

I can listen to it and it sounds cool for a little while... but I'm not running up to newbury comics to grab the latest estiban CD every tuesday.

Same with this kindof stuff:

Erik Mongrain is awsome at guitar, but he's much more entertaining to watch then listento.

I quit.

Seriously though, I've liked flemenco and have tried to play some variations of it for a few years now. My old lady and I go to this Mexican restaurant every then and again that has a mariachi band on Wednesday night who plays shit like this. We went there on her birthday a year ago and they asked her for a request and she said "know any Pepe Romero?" and they belted out a nasty tune table side....killer shit.

I guess we should probably agree that there is a point, displayed by the various links posted here, where in which guitar playing ability can no longer progress. Many of us will likely never reach that point and I am assured that is why it is often referred to as a "virtuoso" skill.

AL DiMeola on an acoustic guitar does absolutely nothing for me. I'd rather watch each performer in that video alone in their own natural habitat.

That said, all three are amazing guitarists. However, the piece is more about getting the three of them together rather than showcasing what each is good at.

Kiss My Axe is one of my favorite jazz guitar albums, right after Pat Methaney's Secret Story.

And now, to tie it all back to metal, here's them two hispanish kids rocking out flamenco jazz versions of thrash tunes with alex skolnick of Testament.

a couple of years ago I was in Madrid with my girlfriend for a few days and we were enjoying a carnival party at our favorite bar, when this silly looking dude soaked in sweat wearing a cardboard J Lo cutout stumbles by our table and spills her drink
He bought her another, and somehow we got to talking about music and death metal and it came out he was german, played in Necrophagist for a while, had his own group called Ferocity and was now living in Madrid learning Flamenco guitar. Uhh...I know that doesn't really have anything to do with anything, this thread just reminded me of that little incident. I bet the guy was sick at guitar :P
