Yeti: The school system is fucked and getting worse since these lil bastards have figured out how to screw with teachers and scream bloody murder if they don't their way so someone gets fired or sued. Kids can be dumber then you can believe while at the same time being smarter then you'd think they are. Pam: You're lucky. I know lots of people who've had kids and even the most well-behaved ones have had their dark years involving tantrums, back talk and other crap. Granted, it might not last long, but it happens. For the bullying, some things never change. Schools for the most part could never do a damn thing about that. Good for you for instilling in your daughter to defend herself. There are too many parents out there that can't figure out the difference in teaching their kids about acceptable and unacceptable violence. Yummy: You pretty much hit it on the head for me, however, I'd do it like my parents. They spanked me, but it was not something common. They did it only here or there for if I did something really bad. I was a good kid for the most part and not really violent. I would get things and privilages taken away from me for most punishments, but the rare times I really fucked up would have been losing a lot of toys, tv time, playing with friends ect with a spanking (Mom rocked the wooden spoon). The point was to hammer home how serious whatever I did was, compared to normal punishments. It was the rare punishment for the rare incidents. I think that's how people should go about it if they are willing to spank their kids. You teach them respect, value and proper conduct. It also draws a line in the sand for punishments which shows kids to a degree how serious both something bad and the punishments can be. You just have to be measured and responsible.
