i've already done it quite a few times, just wondering if anybody has some tips,
i'm trying to think of a hard case of some sort for my cymbal stands
also, drum cases hard vs. soft and what brands are good?

traveling like on a plane??
If so get the sturdiest hardshells you can find and label the FUCK out of them. I've never traveled on a plane with my equipment but that is what i would do if i ever, god forbid, had to. I would probably do that in terms of traveling on the road too, but you can get by with soft cases just dont toss em around.

for cymbal stands the best idea I've come across I got from the drummer of Au Pair.

He carried all his stands in a golf bag.

Golf bags are cheap and you can find them at any yard sale in amerca, they don't weigh a ton like actual hardware cases, and they are pretty funny.

I use a big canvas army bag. It holds all my stands and is big enough and cost me like 12 dollars. It does, however, let the stands poke me while carrying it. I am looking into golf bags now.

yeah, big army canvas bags are the way to go.

although the golf bag idea is great too.

i have soft cases and a rolling cymbal/hardware case. it's worked pretty well for the last few years, but my drums were pretty cheap and they're definitely showing their age now due to the abuse.
the hardware case rules...it's similar to this one... http://www.skbcases.com/music/products/pro....php?f=&id=36&o=&offset=1&c=77&s=77
it fits all my hardware, cymbals, and random crap that i need. definitely worth it if you've got the money

that ones pretty nice, i dont really need one to hold so much all in one, i have a nice bag for my cymbals,
i was thinking maybe some kind of hollowed out guitar case or something for the stands and then bags or cases for the toms, bass, snare

here is a tip... if you have a very fixed setup you can cut excess metal from the cymbal stand booms. This works better if you have a rack. also if you are touring try to figure out a way to mount a mic in the kick. i hate when sound guys put the mic in your kick before you know its in the right spot. then they get pissed at you even tho it was obvious that you were still setting up.

also dont bring a 1000+ set of shells on the road. its a waste of money. you cant really make full use of them in a live setting most of the time. you will drop them now and then and you dont wanna be pissed about that while playing.

oh yea also if you have a set height for cymbal/snare stands you can drill a hole in the stands so that you can stick a nail through. prevents sliding and you wont have to over tighten the thing. the worst feeling is tightening something up so well that it pops.
